World Championship of Military Triathlon. Rio de Janeiro
As an excellent performance can be spoken when referring to the performance of Mónica Sáez in the triathlon event held this Sunday within the calendar of the 5th Military Sports Games of the CISM (International Military Sport Council). Sáez, whose specialties are cross-country skiing and winter triathlon (the latter modality in which she is the current absolute Spanish Champion and 10th in the World Championship).
He left for Brazil aware that the 1500 meters of swimming in the Olympic triathlon were going to mark his options in the test, since his times are far from those set by the specialists.
The forecasts were fulfilled and Mónica lost almost 8 minutes in the first segment, doing the 36th partial swim, with a time of 29 minutes and 45 seconds. However, Sáez would not stop fighting at any time. After a quick first transition, the second best of all the participants, she started the 40 km of cycling, after which she made the best time (58:41).
In her second transition, she would also set the fastest time of all the triathletes, but despite this she would only recover 3 positions with respect to swimming. But the effort was not in vain, since it would allow him to approach many of the rivals that he would later overtake in the foot race, in which he was doing the 20th time (39:04), recovering another 11 places, to enter finish in 22nd place of the 46 participants, with a final time of 2:07:58, to 10:28 of the winner, the Polish Agnieszka Jerzyk.
The other representative of the Spanish Army, Salvador Gil, from the Ferrol Triathlon Club, could not finish the test.
