The preview of the IRONMAN Women's World Championship in Nice 2024

El IRONMAN Women's World Championship Nice, France, which will be played this Sunday 22 of September, will bring together some of the most outstanding triathletes in the world.

This year, the women's competition promises to be exciting, with a starting list that includes several previous champions and young hopefuls who could surprise with their first victory. In this article we analyze the favorites for victory.

The favorites

The clear favorites to take the victory this year are Lucy Charles-Barclay, Anne Haug y Laura Philipp.

Lucy Charles-Barclay, the reigning Ironman World Championship champion, arrives in Nice as the big favourite. Her swimming skills are widely recognised, and her performance on the bike has improved considerably.

However, injuries have been a factor in recent years, and a recent DNF at the London T100 has raised questions about his fitness.

Anne Haug, for her part, has proven to be one of the best triathletes in the world. In addition to her title in 2019 and several third places at the World Championships, in 2023 she finished second in Kona and achieved a new record in the Ironman distance with a time of 8:02 in Roth.

Although his 2024 season has been inconsistent, a solid training block prior to Nice has allowed him to arrive in top condition.

Laura Philipp Philipp completes the trio of favourites. He has been climbing the world rankings this year and is coming into the race in excellent form. It will be especially important to keep an eye on his performance on the bike, where he could make the difference.

In addition to these triathletes, we will have to take into account Chelsea Sodaro, Kona champion in 2022, already Kat matthews, an exceptional runner who arrives in Nice with the confidence of having won the Ironman Texas and the Ironman Vitoria in 2024.

Other triathletes to take into account will be Jackie Hering, India Lee, Els Visser, Fenella Langridge y Danielle lewis, Among others.

As for the Spanish, we will have two triathletes: Gurutze Frades y Marta Sanchez, who debuts this year.

Gurutze returns to competition after an absence in 2023. It will be his seventh participation in the World Cup, where his best position was a ninth place in 2021. For his part, Marta Sanchez makes his debut this year after having qualified for the IRONMAN South Africa, where he took the victory.
