David Castro and Anna Godoy Champions of Spain Acuatlón

The town of Altafulla hosted this Sunday 25 May the Spanish Aquathlon Championship, where Anna Godoy and David Castro have been proclaimed Champions of Spain of the modality.

 

 

The previous night, the weather conditions forced change the format of the competition, taking into account the regulations of competitions ensuring the safety of all athletes. After meeting civil protection, the technical delegate, Spanish Triathlon Federation and maritime captaincy, the decision was taken to maximize the security measures against the weather forecast and in compliance with the Regulations of competitions (Art. 1.5 *), the test was modified to the format of Swimming-Race (with a first segment of 1 km of swimming, followed by 5 km of running on foot).

 

As in yesterday's journey, Anna Godoy He has excelled in the swimming segment, a situation that has given him a good income for the start of the foot race. After passing through the transition zone, Godoy commanded the competition, closely followed by New Zealander Anneke Forrest Jenkins and Anna Flaquer. From behind the next to come out of the transition, they have been Ana Ruz, Sara Pérez and Ana Mariblanca.

 

Jenkins and Godoy have started leading the last lap of the running sector, with Sara Bonilla a little behind in third position. Then Xisca Tous and Ruz marched, both trying to recover positions in these final meters. The New Zealander would end up winning the match to her teammate at the Cidade de Lugo Fluvial and, like yesterday, she repeated her triumph in the general competition.

 

On the other hand, a spectacular Anna Godoy has been proclaimed champion of Spain, both in elite category and in the Sub23 category. After her, Sara Bonilla Triathlon Claveria Móstoles was the second Spaniard to cross the finishing line, obtaining the second place in the category. While Xisca Tous (CT Devils of Rivas) has achieved the elite bronze medal, at the same time he has achieved the subchampionship in Sub23. While his club mate, Ana Mariblanca - seventh overall - has reached the third place of the Sub23 podium.

 

By clubs the triumph has been for the CT Devils of Rivas. The Madridians have been accompanied on the podium by the representatives of the Triathlon Clavería Móstoles in second position and the Fasttriathlon Club, in third place.

 

In the male elite, Víctor Benages has led the competition in the first sector, leading the transition with Emilio Aguayo following its wake a few meters away. While David Castro (unfortunate yesterday, due to a mechanical problem in the cycling segment) has placed in third position, with Luis Miguel Velásquez settled in fourth place.

 

After the second round, Castro took the lead, setting a strong pace, and his advantage increased considerably, until he crossed the finish line in first position and climbed to the top of the podium. The runner-up was in the hands of a Lucas Mola who is demonstrating his clear progression in the Spanish elite. While Pau Castellvell has been awarded the bronze medal. The same podium was repeated in the Sub23 category.

 

In the category of clubs the first position has been classified the Fasttriathlon Club. While the Tri-Val Triathlon Club Valdemoro has won the silver medal and the Triathlon CT of Diables of Rivas the bronze medal has been hung.

 

From the Spanish Federation of Triathlon we appreciate the commitment, work and collaboration of the organization, the city council with the mayor Felix Alonso, the councilor for sports, Guillermo Alonso, the city of Altafulla, all the participants, spectators who have encouraged incessantly and more than 300 volunteers who have contributed to the development of the competition. A locality that has the sights set on the triathlon test of the next 2017 Mediterranean Games.
