Gurutze Frades and Gustavo Rodríguez proclaim Spain's 2014 LD Triathlon Champions

Gurutze Frades wins the victory for the fourth consecutive year.

 

 

Victories for Gurutze Frades y Gustavo Rodríguez in the spectacular stages of the Spanish Long Distance Triathlon Championship, held this time in the framework of the Ocean Lava Arrecife Lanzarote Triathlon. An event that has brought together this November 1 to more than 400 triathletes.

 

Early in the morning the crystal clear waters of El Reducto Beach in Arrecife, received the trials at the beginning of what promised to be a day full of strong emotions, with much at stake to crown the champions of Spain Triathlon Long Distance 2014. Mediated the sector of 3 km of swimmingVíctor Manuel González led the male elite, followed by Xavier Torrades. González would extend his advantage during the rest of the segment to head towards the T1 with a considerable income on the rest of rivals. After him, Briton Oliver Simon came second in the general classification, followed by Spaniards Xavier Torrades and Richard Calle.

 

At the beginning of the 120 km of the cyclist segment, González remained at the forefront of the competition, pursued by Richard Calle that circulated with a difference of more than two minutes from the leader. Gustavo Rodriguez would again demonstrate his excellent conditions on the bike, in a spectacular comeback that would push him to the second position, and dangerously stalking the leadership of Gonzalez, rolling a few 15 seconds behind the leader. The cycling circuit would leave many changes, with Rodriguez placing himself in the lead at the end of the first 45 km of the sector, followed by Víctor del Corral two and a half minutes from the Galician. Then came one of the most intense moments of the route, with a spectacular and technical climb: a stunning ascent of 800 m to 18% to crown Femés. Later, Víctor del Corral It would take the leadership of the competition in the last kilometers of the sector.

 

This would start the remaining 30 km of running, with the Catalan triathlete at the front of the race, followed by Gustavo Rodríguez in the second place a minute away. The race would turn around when in the course of the second round of the sector, Víctor del Corral was forced to leave due to physical problems. The Galician has established himself as a great specialist of long distance this season, with brilliant results both nationally and internationally - to win today, we must also add the Spanish Middle Distance Championship achieved in Buitrago de Lozoya during last June.

 

The second place in the general was reserved for the triathlete born in the United Kingdom, Nicholas Ward and the Spanish Francisco Paul Santos Hernández closed the podium in third position. As for the trio of aces of the Spanish Championship, Santos Hernández He signed the runner-up with a final record of 6: 38: 45 and Alejandro Jimenez of the CT Tecnificación Torrevieja the bronze medal was hung after completing its participation in 6: 43: 08. Excitement to the end in the female elite

In the women's competition, Esther Rodríguez took the reins of the swimming segment after the first 1,5 km, followed in second place by Dolça Ollé. Both would lead the female elite heading the T1, followed by Judith Corachán in third place more than 50 seconds away.

Ollé, triathlete of the Fasttriathlon Club would be the great protagonist of this segment, making a magnificent cycle. In the section of ascent to Femés, Corachán would obtain the second place to more 4: 30 of the leader, with Woysch located in the third position to 5 minutes away. On the other hand, Esther Rodríguez stayed at 6: 50 and Gurutze Frades was at 9: 40 at the front.

 

An impressive Ollé remained in the lead at the beginning of the stretch of 30 km of running. A three-and-a-half-lane tour of El Charco de San Ginés on the seafront, which would elevate the Spanish champion of this edition. The Catalan triathlete starred in the first stages of the race maintaining a good rhythm in the lead. For its part, the German Woysch recovered the second place in the general during some moments of this sector. Then Corachán and Frades struggled to get closer to the lead.

 

In the absence of 10 km to reach the finish line, in a disputed final, the Frais Vizcaína managed to place in the leadership of the competition. The triathlete of the Mugarra Triatloi Taldea arrived at the volcanic lands of Arrecife in search of revalidating the title obtained in 2013, and in a brilliant final he managed to repeat at the top of the podium, stopping the chronometer in 7: 19: 15. After her, and after offering a splendid display, Dolça Ollé reached the second place after staying in the lead for much of the contest, to finally enter the finish line with a time of 7: 29: 28. While Esther Rodríguez del Cidade de Lugo Fluvial, completed the podium in third position and obtained a final record of 7: 30: 18.
