Carlos López, Champion of Spain Triathlon LD with full time work.

Today we interview Carlos López Díaz, Spain's long distance triathlon champion, which he won at the end of October in Ibiza.

Carlos López he is one of the triathletes who has more merit, since he is a father of a family with a job as a commercial agent of surgical medical equipment with a split schedule. Even so, it takes time to train and compete in PRO (in IM), standing up to great professionals and also in Elite at the national level, rubbing shoulders with the best ... until winning in the LD Spain Championship.

First of all, congratulate you on your title of LD Spain Champion. It's been a few weeks now and well, more quietly we wanted to do this interview. Before talking about Ibiza, we would like to get to know you a little better, since we know that you are one of the triathletes that have the most merit, combining full-time work, training and competitions. How is your typical day of work and training?

Hello! The days start at 6h, fast breakfast and water from 7h to 8h25 / 8h30. No more, quick to shower, and to work.
It depends on the day I do a mid-day workout between the 13: 30 and the 16h. And back to work until the 19h or 20h. And here if I play I do the third training of the day, if there is no home to be with the family. Other days I do the day in a row. From 8h30 to 16h30. And when I finish I do the second training.

From the first part of the season, what could you highlight?
The truth is that nothing sports plan. I was not happy with any results. Only do not discourage me.

Later in the Ironman Mallorca you did a great race, arriving 3º to the T2 but later you suffered a lot on foot to finish 8º What happened to you in the marathon?

As the first bike 3h I pass pace regulated with watts) and pay it in the final part of the race.

We arrived at the Championship of Spain of Ibiza. After the IM of Mallorca, how did you plan with your coach the recovery and set-up for the Spanish LD Championship? How were those four weeks?

The truth that we spoke several times on the phone with my coach, Carles Tur who resides in Barcelona and me in Mallorca. In August I was in Ibiza with the inspecting circuits and quickly saw that they were ideal for me. So the first thing was to recover well and make some good trainings with race rhythms. And above all, rest a lot.

The first week and a half was recovery. Soft workouts with some volume Then another 10 days with some cargo and fund going through the Challenge Paguera. And the last days rest as much as possible.

And in Ibiza you achieve your best victory of your sports career. How did you feel in competition?

The truth that I had doubts. Swimming I took it calmly and until the turning point of the km60 bike I had no reference. I saw that the two pursuers were coming to 4 'and I decided to press on the second lap of the bike. Then to see them come in the race on foot. At the km5 there was another turning point where I could take references. Torrades came to 7 'and the ones that worried me the most. Fidalgo, Torres and Rodríguez to 10 / 11 minutes. So I kept a rhythm lower than 4 'the first round.
In the km16 take other references and even had an income of almost 8 '. At this time I made some calculations and I saw myself as a winner. Except explosion won! I started running between 4: 10 / 4: 15 until the end.
