Carolina Routier, in the Top-20 of the Mooloolaba World Cup

The first stage of the 2014 ITU World Cup held in the early hours of Saturday 15 in March in Mooloolaba (Australia), has left good feelings in our young representatives; highlighting the great performance of Carolina Routier, who has finished in a meritorious 16ª square.

The test landed in the Australian town for the 12th time in its history, developing in sprint distance. In the hours before the start, one of the great favorites, the German Anne Haug he was falling off the exit list due to a medical condition. After completing the first swimming segment, Routier started in third position after Katie Hursey from the United States and Kirsten Sweetland from Canada. For her part, the other Spaniard in the running, Tamara Gómez, finished the sector a little further behind at more than 52 seconds.

After passing through the first transition, the Banyoles triathlete has remained in the top positions during the 20 km cyclists around the city of Queensland. At first, the trio formed by Routier, Hursey and Sweetland led the first laps with Emma Moffatt, Gwen Jorgensen, Ellen Pennock, and Klamer 8 seconds and behind them, a large group chasing 23 s away. On the other hand, the ilicitana Tamara Gómez has remained in a second persecuting group, with a disadvantage that oscillated between one and two and a half minutes.

Mediated the sector, the first persecuting group has merged with the leading trio, staying for the rest of the segment. Thus, a group of some 20 triathletes has reached the T2, with the local triathlete Emma Moffatt placing in first position.

Everything was to be decided at the start of the 5 km final race on foot. In the initial bars of the sector, the big favorites took the reins, with six triathletes fighting for the podium, with constant changes of leadership in the course of this last segment. Jorgenssen, Japan's Ai Ueda, Hursey, New Zealand Andrea Hewitt, Pennock and Moffatt have fought an intense fight along these 5 km. In the absence of a return, Jorgensen retained the first place, with Hursey and Ueda behind and the rest of contenders losing valuable seconds.

Finally, Gwen Jorgensen has won the victory. After her, compatriot Hursey, has hung the silver medal and Ai Ueda has been third, entering 19 seconds of the winner.

Note the splendid role of a Routier that has remained in the prominent positions throughout the race, to finally cross the finish line in a remarkable 16ª square. While Tamara Gómez, 26ª classified, has done a good job, in her first international participation of the season.
