Cassandre Beaugrand seeks to make history in Torremolinos

The next October 19, Torremolinos will witness a historic event with the Grand Final of the World Triathlon Series (WTCS).

The French Cassandre Beaugrand has the unique opportunity to achieve a double that only the great Flora Duffy has achieved this before: winning both the Olympic and World titles in the same year.

The Beaugrand Year: A Path to History

With only 27 years, Cassandre Beaugrand has had an exceptional season achieving victory in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

Now, he arrives in Torremolinos with an almost perfect season in the World Series, having also won in Cagliari y Hamburg.

Beaugrand leads the ranking with a 114-point advantage over its closest competitor, the British Beth Potter.

If the Frenchwoman wins or finishes second in Torremolinos, she will be awarded the title of World Champion.

Their rivals in Torremolinos

Beth Potter, the 2023 champion and bronze medalist in Paris, arrives with a clear mission: to retain the title. To do so, she needs to win the race and Beaugrand finish third or worse.

The german Lisa Tertsch is another of the rivals to be taken into account. At just 25 years old, she has proven to be one of the strongest triathletes of the season, achieving victory in the Weihai test and getting the gold in the Olympic Mixed Relay of the Games.

Tertsch is only 18 points away from Potter and, like the British, needs to win and hope that Beaugrand finish outside the top two positions to be able to aspire to the title.

Completing the group of top challengers is Emma lombi, also French, who is in fourth position in the ranking.

The 23-year-old has a mathematical chance of taking the title, although it depends on a series of combinations of results that include Beaugrand, Potter y Tertsch.

Beyond the main contenders, the podium for the Finals is far from decided.

Triathletes like Georgia Taylor-Brown (GBR), Jeanne Lehair (LUX), Kate Waugh (GBR) and Leonie Periault (FRA) could play a crucial role in the fight for the top positions.
