Cassandre Beaugrand breaks the French 5K record

La olympic champion y worldwide triathlon, Cassandre Beaugrand, has smashed the French record for 5km on the road by crossing the finish line in 14:53 at the Monaco Run Gramaglia.

The 27-year-old triathlete decided skip the first round of the World Triathlon Series in Abu Dhabi to test themselves by running on the streets of the Principality.

And she did succeed: her time lowered the previous record by five seconds and placed her among the European elite for the distance.

New French record in 5K

Until now, the French record was set at 14:58 and in this weekend's race Beaugrand has shown, with his 14:53, that he is not only capable of performing at a high level in triathlon events, but that he can also run very fast on asphalt.

It also clears up the controversial legacy of Sara Benfares, who was banned for doping in 2022.

Beaugrand thus becomes only the second woman in France to break the 15-minute mark and the first to have a record fully recognised at the federation level.

Her 14:53 puts her in the top 10 in Europe and undoubtedly sends a serious warning to her rivals for this season.

These were his times in the race

Kilometer Time (min/km)
1 3:01
2 3:01
3 3:03
4 2:59
5 2:49

A different strategy before the WTCS

Beaugrand's decision not to travel to Abu Dhabi for the World Triathlon Series season opener has been a notable one, but the triathlete herself said she wanted to "enjoy running" and test her ability against athletes who are purely dedicated to road races.

Next stop: back to triathlon competition

The Parisian plans to return to triathlon very soon: she will compete in the T1 Indoor Triathlon World Cup in Liévin on March 22, then fly to London to contest the Supertri E World Triathlon Championship on April 5, and then, in May, she will face her debut in the 2025 season of the World Series in Yokohama (Japan).
