Everything is ready for the European Long Distance Triathlon Championships at Challenge Almere-Amsterdam
Next Saturday 14 of September, the Challenge Almere-Amsterdam, one of the oldest and fastest competitions in the world, will host the European Long Distance Triathlon Championship.
This internationally renowned event will bring together triathletes from around the world to compete in a demanding 3.8km swim, 180km bike ride and 42.2km run, all in pursuit of the prestigious title of European Champion.
Favorites
Among the most anticipated athletes is the Dutchman menno koolhaas, who set a new record in the event last year with a time of 7:36:36.
Koolhaas will try to defend his title against other heavyweights like the German Florian Angert, who will debut in Almere this year, and the Swedish Jesper Svensson, who finished second at the 2021 World Championships and is the third-fastest man in the history of the competition.
The Dutch representation will be strong, with athletes such as Milan brons, who has a best time of 7:48:46, and Pim van Diemen, recent Dutch middle distance champion.
They are joined by competitors such as Lukasz Wojt, probably the best swimmer in the men's category, and Jorik van Egdom, Olympic triathlete making his long distance debut.
Favorite
In the women's category, the local favorite Marlene deBoer, second last year, will be looking for victory after her recent triumphs in Sweden and Poznan.
De Boer will face strong opposition from the Danish Michelle Vesterby, who will be competing in his last professional race and will seek to close his career with a victory.
The South African will also be present Magda Nieuwoudt, winner of the Challenge Family World Bonus 2023, and the German Lina Kristin-Schink, well known in Almere.
As for the Spanish, Carolina Laurentiu will participate in the women's event and Ignacio Cabrera in the men's event.
