The preview of the Challenge Barcelona 

This Sunday, the Mar Bella beach in Barcelona will become the epicenter of the world triathlon.  

El Challenge Barcelona 2023 It's not just another race; It is a manifestation of the growing popularity of this sport, both in Spain and internationally and will have 3.200 participants.

Favorites 

Alistair Brownlee returns to Spain with great expectations. After undergoing surgery to remove a bone spur in his ankle, the double Olympic gold medalist is ready to prove himself. 

Brownlee has had a difficult season due to injuries, but his return to middle distance triathlon begins with Challenge Barcelona and continues with Challenge Mallorca on October 14.  

In this race, you will face athletes of the caliber of cam wurf y Aaron Royle, in addition to Dutch Youri Keulen and, of course, Spanish Antonio Benito . 

In the women's race, Imogen Simmonds presents itself as a strong contender.  

The Swiss athlete, ranked number 10 in the world by the PTO, will be seeking her third victory in the Challenge this year. 

 Sara Pérez Sala, the local favorite, will also be a strong competitor, especially with the support of the local public.  

Other athletes to watch out for are lucy buckingham, who has already secured his place at the next World Championships HOMBRE DE HIERRO 70.3, and Caroline Pohle, which hopes to improve its ranking in the PTO world rankings. 

 Distances 

The test will have Super Sprint, Sprint, Olympic distances and a new modality, the Elite Short, which includes 1.500 meters of swimming, 60 kilometers of cycling and 16 kilometers of running. 

This modality is exclusive for professional triathletes and is eligible for the World Challenge Bonus.

The first edition of the Challenge Barcelona will take place on Sunday, October 8 and will begin at 08:00 local time.
