Environmental Innovations
In its desire for constant improvement, where they take care of every detail for the athlete, Club La Santa IRONMAN Lanzarote has not wanted to leave behind something as important as respect for the environment.
One of the highlights of this edition has been the focus on sustainability. Fabio Cabrera, race director, stated that it is crucial for them to protect the island's spectacular environment.
The event has implemented several initiatives, such as the use of GPS buoys in the swimming segment to avoid damage to the seabed and the reduction of plastic use through reusable water bottles.
In addition, all the materials used in the running race were compostable and the triathletes' bags were made from recycled materials.
"For us this part is very important, it is a spectacular island and our commitment is to take care of it.“said Fabio Cabrera, race director.
"Last year we received green flag, in recognition of this work and which has the support of the Government of Spain, represented by the Ministry of Culture and Sports and the Ministry for the Ecological Transition"
From Triatlón Noticias we were able to observe some of these actions that have not left us indifferent:
"We use GPS buoys in the swimming segment in this way we manage not to damage the seabed or the ecosystem that inhabits it."
Other notable details are their commitment to reducing the use of plastic in cycling “Water bottles are reusable and made specifically for the event, minimizing contamination"Said Fabio Cabrera"Additionally, all materials used in the running race are compostable, and the triathletes' bags are made from recycled materials."
These are without a doubt some of the details that position this test as a reference at an organizational level.
