FETRI concentration in Lanzarote: the new adventure of Gómez Noya
La Spanish Triathlon Federation (FETRI) has started its second training camp of the season on the island of Lanzarote.
On this occasion, it has the technical direction of Javier Gómez Noya, who a few months ago stepped aside from the competition after more than twenty years in the elite.
The Galician, five-time world champion and Olympic silver medallist in London 2012, now joins the coaching staff to offer his experience to a group of eight athletes seeking to improve their level.
A new stage for the five-time champion
At 41 years Javier Gómez Noya has decided to pour all his wisdom into the project Team Spain of the FETRI.
This team is made up of five women and three men, mainly from the under-23 category. Although there are also names with more experience such as David Castro, Sara Guerrero y Cecilia Santa Maria.
The main objective is to combine performance in top-level races with progressive development that ensures the future of these athletes.
A group of eight promises
The team has travelled to Lanzarote to take advantage of the good weather conditions and work on key aspects: technique, consistent performance and injury prevention.
On the northwest coast of the island is the Club Santa, a place that has become a reference for triathletes and athletes from different disciplines.
Its facilities, designed to combine training and rest, allow you to work on each segment of the triathlon in a privileged environment.
Accompanying Gómez Noya, appears Victor Benajes, a former national level swimmer, who provides support in supervising training. Along with them is Diego, the physiotherapist in charge of monitoring the recovery of each triathlete after intense days of work.
Swimming and cycling: key points
Swimming is one of the main priorities of this training camp. The plan is to improve technique and ensure that the triathletes come out in the lead during the competition.
On the other hand, the cycling part receives special attention, since a good performance in the bike can make a difference in demanding races. To do this, the group combines power sessions with tactical reviews designed to improve their performance in the race.
The team does not neglect transitions, considered another crucial discipline in triathlon.
Upcoming challenges in Europe
Starting in March, the team plans to compete in various competitions on the continent, especially European Cups and world-class events.
David Castro, one of the most experienced athletes, could participate in a World Cup in Napier to maintain and improve his position in the ranking. In parallel, the rest of the members await competitions in places such as Quarteira, where valuable points for the classification are also distributed.
Eyes set on Pontevedra
The preparation does not stop when the stay in Lanzarote is over. The next destination for the FETRI group will be Pontevedra, the sporting birthplace of Gómez Noya and an ideal environment to intensify the specific sessions.
The plan is for everyone to arrive in good shape for the first tests, but without neglecting consistency and preventing discomfort.
With this approach, FETRI seeks to strengthen the national triathlon scene and ensure a quality relay at the elite level.
Javier Gómez Noya and his team will continue working to lead the under-23 group to the best positions, betting on a long-term horizon that excites all fans.
