A priest will participate in a triathlon in Abu Dhabi to save his cathedral

It is not usual to see a priest take on a triathlon, but Andy Bowerman, Dean of Bradford Cathedral, is about to do so.
This February 8th he will participate in the TriYAS 2025 (Olympic distance) in Abu Dhabi, with an objective that goes beyond sport: raise funds for their cathedral.
At 53 years old and with one knee operation under his belt, Bowerman has decided to take on his first triathlon to help support the operation of his church.I have never run a race like this and, after my knee surgery, it is a great personal challenge. But I will do it because I believe in the cause.”, explained the British priest.
For Bowerman, this competition will be more than just a physical effort. Any money he raises from his challenge will help cover the costs of the event. Bradford Cathedral, a historic building that costs more than 2.850 euros per day to remain standing and continue its educational and cultural work.
From the church to the asphalt: its preparation
The life of a dean is busy, but Bowerman has found the time to prepare. His main training has been his participation in a weekly parkrun in Bradford, where he has gradually regained his stamina.
