David Cantero and María Varo are crowned winners of the Villa de Fuente Álamo 2024 International Triathlon

The Alicante David cantero and toledana María Varo They took victory yesterday in the thirty-second edition of the Villa de Fuente Álamo International Triathlon, held on Rihuete Beach in Mazarrón.

Cantero completed the demanding course, which included 750 meters of swimming, 25 kilometers of cycling and 5 kilometers of running, in a time of 1 hour and 1 minute, while Varo did it in 1 hour and 11 minutes.

A challenge under the wind

This year's edition was marked by the wind, which blew strongly in the early afternoon at Rihuete Beach, with gusts of up to 30 kilometers per hour.

This forced the participants to make extreme efforts, especially in the cycling segment, where the headwind made progression difficult.

Cantero revalidates his title

Despite the adverse conditions, Cantero managed to defend his champion title, won last year.

The triathlete from Alicante remained in the leading group throughout the race and took advantage of his good form in the running race to win at the finish line.

Varo, an exciting victory

In the women's category, María Varo staged an epic comeback to take the victory. Varo, who came out of the water in seventh position, closed the gap until she surpassed her rivals in the cycling and running segments.

The Toledo woman was excited when she crossed the finish line, stating that “I didn't think I could win Trifuenteálamo, which for me is a very special event.”

An event with a great atmosphere

The Villa de Fuente Álamo International Triathlon had the participation of more than 700 athletes, arriving from different points in Spain and abroad.

The event took place in a festive and family atmosphere, with the presence of a large audience that encouraged the participants throughout the route.
