David Castro wins the Napier World Cup

La Napier World Cup opened the calendar international Triathlon World Cup 2025 with Spanish victory after the opening round of the World Series in Abu Dhabi.
In the men's category, the test began with the 750 meters of swimming in which the Australian Brayden Mercer He stretched out the group and left some competitors behind.
So much David Castro , the Roberto Sánchez Mantecón were in prominent positions when the first transition came.
The cycling race was full of breakaway attempts. Several breakaway groups formed. However, the main peloton managed to regroup to face the final kilometres before the second transition.
Once in the running race, it was clear that the outcome would be decided in the final meters.
The duel was concentrated around ten triathletes, with David Castro y Roberto Sánchez Mantecón among them.
Castro accelerated in the final meters to cross the finish line in first position, followed by Brayden Mercer and also from the Australian Callum McClusky.
Mantecón was just off the podium in fourth place, just a few seconds away from bronze.

The return of David Castro
The man from La Mancha was coming off a 2024 season that was complicated by injuries, so this victory feels like redemption.
In his own words, he said he was “very happy” to have regained his confidence and to have shown that, with a change of coach and a renewed mentality, he can once again be a protagonist in the big events.
Canadian dominance in the women's event
In the women's competition, the Canadian Desirae Ridenour took the victory after a 5K that broke the race in the final meters. The Australian Emma Jeffcoat was second and the New Zealander ainsley got third place.
With this start to the season, 2025 starts off with energy for our Triarmada and confirms that there is still a lot of spectacle ahead on the international triathlon scene.
