Dominique Wymmersh wins the Titan Sierra de Cádiz with authority
The Spaniard Dominique Wymmersh Gallego has been proclaimed this Saturday winner of the Titan XI, the special edition of this long distance triathlon in its eleventh anniversary.
135 triathletes from all over the country and from Portugal, France, the United Kingdom and Denmark, have faced 4 kilometers of swimming, 120 kilometers of bike and 30 kilometers of running on the steep roads that mark the Sierra de Cádiz , which is one of the toughest circuits in Europe in this discipline.
At these distances and more than 3.000 meters of altitude of the circuit, have added the high temperatures that the region has lived throughout the day and even a tremendous downpour after the 11 hours of racing. At that time, up to twenty runners still remained in the race on foot.
Wymmersh (7: 27: 56) was proclaimed champion when taking advantage of his great moment of form and an incontestable superiority in the cycling segment. He stood as leader crowning the port of El Boyar and left behind the Portuguese David Caldeirao and Arcos de la Frontera triathlete Francisco Ortega Serrano, 'Gavi'.
The Bicitecnia athlete left the bike to face the race on foot with more than five minutes ahead of his pursuers. Only Ortega Serrano (7: 39: 27) and Caldeirao (7: 43: 49), second and third on the podium, followed in his wake. "It's been hard, very hard, but I've enjoyed it a lot, I've been trying to achieve this for many years and to win a great triathlon as this is something incredible," said Wymmersh. In this edition, there has been no female participation.
If in the 2014 edition the torrential rains altered the development of the test, this Saturday the Sierra de Cádiz has dawned with completely clear skies and has punished the participants with sun and high temperatures from the start, at eight thirty the morning. Eleven hours later, dark clouds appeared and released a storm.
Volunteers and neighbors of Zahara de la Sierra, Algodonales, Grazalema, El Bosque and other towns that runs the cycling segment have turned to the titans, among which have been relived dozens of stories of improvement, friendship, camaraderie and passion for sport, one of the great hallmarks of the test.
The organization has appreciated the effort of the participants to overcome a triathlon that has put them to the limit. "Last year we prepared a very special edition, the most beautiful and harsh one imagined, on that occasion it could not be, but today that dream has been fulfilled, we have seen athletes enjoy this magical environment, the hardness that confronts them to the Titan, and of the people who make this unique test, "they said from the organization.
The Titan is an event certified by Proyecto Amore for its social and environmental commitment. In all its editions it supports a charity project. On this occasion, he has championed the cause of Donando Vidas, the initiative of triathlete Eduardo Rangel Sanluqueño, which this year faces twelve extreme tests to promote organ donation among more than 100.000 athletes.
Rangel has reached Zahara's goal at around eleven o'clock. He has been one of the privileged to live this unique experience, since the organization has confirmed that the Titan will recover its usual distance (2 + 90 + 21) in 2016.
