Marina Muñoz and Fernando Zorrilla win the 2025 MD Duathlon Spanish Championship in Graus

El Spanish MD Duathlon Championship 2025 landed in Graus with the usual format: 9 kilometers of running, 60 kilometers of cycling and 9 kilometers of running.

A demanding route that brought together duathletes from all over Spain in search of a title national that, finally, they took him away Marina Muñoz, from the Deporama Triathlon Soriano, and Fernando Zorrilla, from the Stadium Casablanca Mapei.

Female emotion until the last stretch

The women's event was exciting. At first, the British Phoebe Barker, from Peñota Dental Alusigma, tried to break the race in the first 9K on foot.

His quick start strategy ignited the competition, but in the final stretch he was Marina Muñoz who crossed the finish line with a total time of 2h45m43s.

The aragonese Martha Bourbon, from the Stadium Casablanca Mapei, finished just over a minute behind (2h47m10s), while third in the international classification was the French steffie lebenezic, also from Peñota Dental Alusigma.

However, for the podium national, Barker and Le Benezic were not counted, so Spain's third place was occupied by Elia Roda, from Galosport, with a time of 2h52m43s.

Fourth place nationally went to Fatima Arevalo, from Sport&Fun, followed by Andrea Iglesias placeholder image, from Deportivo Delikia.

Zorrilla's absolute dominance in the men's elite

In the men's category, the Aragonese Fernando Zorrilla imposed his law throughout the cycling segment.

The first 9K had several favorites trying to set the pace, especially the British James Teagle, from Peñota Dental Alusigma, who sought to escape from the beginning.

But the moment Zorrilla got on his bike, he gave his rivals no chance and finished leader in 2h25m13s.

Behind him, Teagle crossed the finish line in second place in the general classification, less than two minutes behind.

For the Spanish championship, the key moment came in the last lap of the foot race, when Gonzalo Fuentes, from Peñota Dental Alusigma, was fighting for second place in the championship.

However, in the final sprint, Alejandro Torres (Resistentia T3) took the national silver, leaving Fuentes in third place. Fifth in the overall classification, but fourth at the national level, was Jonathan Sanchez, from Deportivo Delikia, preceding José María Jiménez, from Desam.es.

Paraduathlon, Age Groups and more surprises

The Spanish Paralympic Men's MD Duathlon Championship PTS4 also had some notable moments: the Canary Islander Carmelo Yeray Perez, from the Perpetuo Socorro Triathlon Hospital, climbed to the top of the podium, followed by Jesús Miguel Sánchez, from the Stadium Venice.

Simultaneously, male and female age groups faced the challenge of the 9-60-9 route with great participation from all over Spain, demonstrating that duathlon is a sport open to all ages and levels.

In addition, the Aragon MD Duathlon Regional Championship was held, where Martha Bourbon y Fernando Zorrilla They added another title after their magnificent performance.

School Duathlon: the quarry in action

The weekend included the Graus School Duathlon, with youth, cadet, infant, juvenile, youngest and initiation categories.

Numerous triathlon schools in Aragon presented their future promises, and young people from other corners came to live the experience in a first-class environment and infrastructure.

The final result was a day full of excitement, with the absolute protagonism of the athletes who gave their all in every kilometer. Graus once again shone as the venue for an event national of the first order, highlighting the constant growth of duathlon and triathlon competitions in Spain.
