Duel of Jan Frodeno, Alistair Brownlee and Kristian Blummenfelt at the PTO European Open in Ibiza

The Professional Triathlete Organization (PTO) has announced their Wildcards for the men's and women's races PTO European Open that will be held in Ibiza on May 6.

After the announcement of the men's start listIt was already commented that more names would be revealed today and the level that the test will have has not disappointed.

For the men's race, Jan Frodeno (GER) will compete alongside the double Olympic champion Alistair Brownlee (GBR).

The men's event will win three Olympic golds, after confirmation yesterday that the winner in Tokyo and the number 1 of the PTO, Kristian Blummenfelt, will also be at the starting line.

This will be the first time that all three athletes compete in the same race.

Frodeno expressed on social networks that feel "chills" before the prospect of this long-awaited duel under the sun of Ibiza.

Also participating will be professional cyclist turned triathlete Cameron Wurf (AUS) and Justus Nieschlag (GER), who impressively won the Ironman 70.3 Lanzarote in March.

In the women's race, Wildcars were awarded to Amelia Watkinson (NZL), sif madsen (DEN), Anne Reichmann (GER) and Els Visser (NED).

Sam Renouf, CEO of PTO, commented at a press conference

"The goal of these Wildcards is to ensure that we have the best triathletes in our sport, who have not been ranked due to injury or absence, and thus give them the opportunity to compete.. "

Dates and coverage

The PTO European Open will take place on Saturday May 6 in Ibiza, with the men's race at 08:15 CET and the women's race at 09:45 CET.

Both will be broadcast live to more than 170 territories, thanks to the PTO Tour's partnerships with Warner Bros. Discovery and other international, regional and local broadcasters, including DAZN, beIN Sports and SPOTV.

PTO US Open the next stop.

The PTO Tour 2023 kicks off in Ibiza on May 6 and then heads to Milwaukee on August 4-5 for the PTO US Open, before continuing on to Singapore for the first PTO Asian Open on August 19-20.
