The Norseman Xtreme: The world's most coveted triathlon?
More than 6.000 athletes register to obtain one of the 125 available places
El Norseman Xtreme Triathlon, held in Norway, has become one of the most coveted events for triathletes around the world.
The 2025 edition, which will be the 22nd running of the Norseman and the fifth time it has served as an Xtri World Championship, has received a staggering 6.304 registration requests from 96 different countries for just 125 available spots.
An epic challenge in incredible landscapes
Like own IronmanThe Norseman consists of a 3,8 km swim, a 180 km bike segment and a 42,2 km marathon.
The adventure begins with the 250 participants jumping from a ferry into the fjord hardangerfjord in Eidfjord. The route, which is point-to-point, includes a circuit in bike with 3.000 meters of ascent, which the organizers define as “scenic but brutal.”
The race ends with the 42,2-kilometer marathon, where the first half takes place along the lake. Tinnsjoen, while the second half takes the athletes to the top of the mountain Gaustatoppen.
The first 160 athletes to reach the 37km mark have the opportunity to complete the mountain climb and receive a black finisher's t-shirt. The others are redirected to a “lower course” and finish the marathon in a white t-shirt.
How to get a registration
Registration for the Norseman access lottery was only open for one week, however, there is another way to get a place in the race: by accumulating X points, which are obtained by participating in races and events Xtri.
The top 100 athletes in the X-points standings applying for the Norseman also get a spot. In addition, a spot is reserved for the top two male and female athletes in each of the events. Xtri long distance that make up the series.

It seems that a large number of triathletes are ready to take on that challenge. The Norseman is becoming a symbol of the quest for adventure in the triathlon world and, with the number of registrations ever increasing, there is no doubt that this event will continue to attract the most ambitious athletes on the planet.
