The Portocolom Triathlon returns on Sunday to be the center of European triathlon

Record of participation with 800 athletes

 

 

This Sunday a new edition of the Portocolom Triathlon, which has been presented at the Club Nàutic de Portocolom, with a new participation record (800 athletes) and with a large group of international professionals fighting for victory in both formats (111 and 55.5). In addition, the TriKids is held, a duathlon for minors in which a total of 200 children participate.

 

Today the seventeenth edition of the historic Portocolom International Triathlon at Club Nautic de Portocolom (Felanitx), which will once again be the nerve center of triathlon in Europe, as it is one of the first events on the calendar and for the impressive list of international professional triathletes who will fight for victory on Sunday of the 8h45. It will be a weekend of sports activity in Felanitx, Mallorca with the dispute tomorrow from the 11h00 of the TriKids, a duathlon for minors in which 200 children will participate, the sports fair in the Club Nàutic and the awards ceremony and post event party.

 

Today, theTriathlon of Portocolomen has been officially presented, which among all the categories will participate around 800 athletes. The event was attended by Gabriel Tauler Riera, mayor of Felanitx, Beatriz Martínez, councilor and mayor of Portocolom, ClimentGrimau, president of Club Náutic de Portocolom, JaumeVicens, director of the event, as well as Mercé Soteras, deputy general director of Llevant Hospital and Antonio Matji , IFC's advisory partner (Heliocare), as sponsors of the test. The presentation was attended by two of the favorites for the victory, the German professionals Diana Riesler (reigning long distance European champion) and MarkusHormann.

 

The test of the day will be the Triathlon of Portocolom 111 that will start on Sunday at 8h45 and consist of 1 km of swimming, 100 km of cycling and 10 km of foot race. At the same time, an 55.5 test will be held, with more affordable distances (500 m for swimming, 50 for cycling and 5 for running) and that is perfect for debuting in the world of triathlon.

 

The Triathlon of Portocolom 2014 will feature international level triathletes for the 111 format, especially in the female category, with the powerful German 'Armada' with Diana Riesler (current European champion), Julia Gager (winner of the Ironman Arizona) and Susan Blatt (second in 2013 in Portocolom and winnerChallenge Almere), as well as the IrishwomanEimear Mullan (fivefold Ironman 70.3 test winner and two time winner in Portocolom in the 111 format), the Austrian Eva Wutti (winner of Challenge Barcelona), Sandrine Ben ... and many other high level athletes. .

 

In the men's category, local triathletes Joan Nadaly and Miguel ÁngelFidalgo, who will face the BelgianTimothy Van Houten, the Germans Markus Hörmann and FabianRahn, the Austrian Florian Kriegl, the Swiss Philipp Gublero the PolishAdam Kacper. In the 55.5 test the favorites are the Spaniards Óscar Vicente, Miguel F. Miniño and the Austrian Christoph Schlagbauer.

There will be special prizes for the fastest riders in the Sant Salvador cycling segment, one of the great attractions of the event, and a special IFC - Heliocare prize for the winners of the 111 category, as well as stays in the apartmentsBendinat, Hotel Cape Colom and Robinson Club.
