A break in Emilio Aguayo's career: new goals for 2025

The Valencian triathlete Emilio Aguayo He has announced the end of his 2024 season through his social networks, mentioning that, although his body is in good physical condition, it is his mind that is asking for an indefinite rest.
At 34 years old, and after two decades dedicated to triathlon, Aguayo decides to take a break to reevaluate his priorities and objectives, both personal and sporting.
In an emotional message shared with his followers, Aguayo stressed the importance of taking a break from his sports career to reorganize his life.
“I have been practicing and enjoying this sport for 20 years, fighting and doing everything possible to reach and offer my highest level.
"The time has come for a break, some time to devote myself to other things, get some fresh air and reorganize objectives and priorities," said the triathlete.
A break with no return date
Aguayo, who is part of the ANb Triathlon Team, made his international debut in 2008 in the Junior European Cup in Pulpí, obtaining a creditable 9th place.
Since then, he has been one of the great exponents of Spanish triathlon, achieving important results in both short and long distances.
Despite his successes, the last few years have not been easy for Aguayo. In his message, he mentions that the results have not matched his efforts, and that this has been an important factor in his decision to take a break.
“It has not been an easy road, especially in recent years, when I have not achieved the results I have been working for,” he confessed.

A 2025 of new challenges
Far from abandoning the sport altogether, Aguayo has expressed his intention to continue training and staying active, exploring new disciplines.
Although he has not yet revealed what his next challenge will be, he did reveal that he has begun training in a completely new sport for him, and that he will announce it soon.
“Surely this coming 2025 will be a year of seeking new experiences and motivations,” he said.
Aguayo also mentioned that this change in his sporting life will allow him to dedicate more time to his family and his work as a coach.
"I want to continue doing sports, something I can't imagine living without, but adapting my routines to my current life," she said.
The turning point: IRONMAN Vitoria 2022
One of the most significant moments in Aguayo's career occurred in the HOMBRE DE HIERRO Victory 2022, where he was on the verge of achieving great success.
With 7 km to go, Aguayo placed second, just 5 seconds behind the leader, the Australian Cameron Wurf.
However, a nutritional problem led him to suffer a brutal crash, forcing him to retire when victory seemed within his grasp. This episode marked a before and after in his career and was one of the triggers that led him to rethink his future in competition.
Grateful to his sponsors
Throughout his career, Aguayo has had the support of numerous sponsors and collaborators, whom he publicly thanked in his temporary farewell message.
“I thank all the sponsors and collaborators who have supported me over the years,” he said, adding that, although some will stop supporting him due to his decision to take a break, others will continue to support him in his new projects.
Aguayo's announcement has generated reactions of support in the triathlon community, which hopes to see him return to competition when he feels ready.
An open future
Although Aguayo has not specified when he will compete in triathlon again, he has made it clear that his passion for the sport remains intact.
“We will see each other soon at the starting line,” he concluded his message, leaving the door open to a possible return in the future.
