Change of date for the European Triathlon Championship in Istanbul 2025

El Europe Triathlon Championships Istanbul 2025 just announce a major change in its calendar.
Initially, the competition was scheduled for September 5 and 6, 2025, but it will finally be held a week earlier, that is, on 30 y August 31.
This decision, taken in conjunction with the Turkish Triathlon Federation and local authorities in Istanbul, seeks to improve both the safety and the experience of all participants.
The reason for the change? Mainly, ensure that the 15 July Martyrs Bridge can be closed to traffic and make possible that long-awaited journey across the Bosphorus.

The 15 July Martyrs Bridge: the main protagonist
The event is notable for the crossing of the 15 July Martyrs Bridge, the iconic viaduct that connects Europe and Asia over the Bosphorus Strait.
The bridge is never normally closed to traffic, given its importance to Istanbul's nearly 25 million inhabitants. However, during this competition, a unique privilege will be opened to triathletes: cycling from one continent to another during the cycling event.

“I am delighted to announce the European Standard Distance Championships in Istanbul on 30-31 August 2025. This competition represents an unprecedented opportunity as it coincides with the Asian Championships, embodying our motto ‘Building Bridges’.
The highlight will be crossing in bike the 15 July Martyrs Bridge over the Bosphorus, something truly extraordinary. Participants will be able to feel the thrill of crossing continents, making their race an unforgettable experience.
This concept emerged in 2022 in Alanya, in talks with Bayram Yalçınkaya, President of the Turkish Triathlon Federation. Istanbul, a melting pot of two continents, was the perfect venue to unite athletes from Europe and Asia in one event.”
Bayram Yalçınkaya, President of the Turkish Triathlon Federation, also stressed the importance of the date change:
“To ensure the best racing conditions and maximum safety for all participants, we have agreed to move the event to the end of August 2025.
