A triathlete dies at GARMIN BARCELONA TRIATHLON

A Dutch triathlete of 41 has died in the swimming sector

OFFICIAL COMMUNIQUE GARMIN BARCELONA TRIATHLON

 The Garmin Barcelona Triathlon regrets to announce the death of one of the participants this morning during the competition dispute. The deceased, of 41 years and Dutch nationality, took part in the Olympic distance. 

 

The emergency services of the first section of the test, the swimming section, detected the incidence in the competitor at 9.51 in the morning. With a jet ski, he was taken to shore where the ground device, made up of two ambulances, one of them with a mobile ICU, began advanced resuscitation maneuvers. Later, he was transferred by ambulance to Hospital del Mar while those same maneuvers were being practiced on him, dying before reaching the center.

 

Despite the fact that the weather conditions were correct for the development of the test, and that all the emergency protocols have worked quickly, the death of the triathlete could not be prevented. The organization has made itself available to the family and those accompanying them for all the procedures and the necessary accompaniment in these cases.
