A triathlete dies in the IRONMAN 70.3 Cairns

The organization has confirmed the death of a triathlete during the swimming segment in the IRONMAN 70.3 Cairns which was played yesterday in Australia.

The athlete was treated but there was nothing they could do for him. No other information is known apart from the official statement

The test consisted of traveling 1.900 meters of swimming, 90 km of cycling and 21 of running on foot

It appears that neoprene was optional in the jellyfish risk test. The start was in Rolling start format with 4 triathletes every 10 seconds.

We are deeply saddened to confirm the death of one of our athletes in the IRONMAN 70.3 Cairns triathlon. The athlete required medical attention during the swimming portion of Sunday's race at Palm Cove.

We thank the swimming safety and emergency services personnel for their response to provide the athlete with medical assistance.

Our condolences to the athlete's family and friends, whom we will continue to support during this difficult time.
