Casper Stornes gives surprise at the Bermuda World Series

The Norwegian youth has surprised everyone by escaping in the cycling sector and getting the victory. Mario Mola has been fourth with a great comeback.

Today the second stage of the Triathlon World Series in the Bermuda Islands with the presence of 52 men and 32 women who started in the elite category.

The test has been disputed on Olympic distance (1,5-40-10) in a hard cycling circuit with 10 climbs to Corkscrew Hill with a technical descent that has marked the differences in the test.

The test began at 6 in the afternoon at about 23 degrees Celsius, with the 1.500 meters of swimming, without wetsuit, in the crystal clear waters of the Bermuda Islands in the port of Hamilton, where the fastest was Henry Schoeman, one of the fastest swimmers on the circuit, followed by Pierre Le Corre and Ben Kanute. Mario Mola came out at 28 seconds, Fernando Alarza 33 and Uxío Abuín 35 seconds behind the race leader.

On the tough cycle circuit with the spectacular climb to Corkscrew Hill a front group of 15 units quickly formed with Schoeman, Blummenfelt, Richard Murray. Mario Mola and Fernando Alarza passed in a chasing group at 30 seconds while Uxio Abuín did it at more than 50 seconds. Little by little they were adding units to the group to finally regroup at km 10 of the race forming a platoon of 30 units where all the favorites were where the Norwegian Casper Stornes, the youngest triathlete of the test at 21 years old, took advantage of the break to launch a solo attack reached a 2:26 lead.

Finally Stornes arrived alone at T2 with 1:16 advantage over Blummenfelt who attacked in the final part of the cycling sector together with his compatriot Gustav Iden and the Danish Andreas Schilling. The main group with Mola, Fernando Alarza and Uxío Abuín arrived at T2 with 2:16 behind the race leader.

In the first round, Stornes maintained the advantage over his pursuers by passing with 1: 19 advantage over Blummenfelt, Iden and Schilling. Mario Mola passed to 2: 11 leading the pursuer group.

Mola, with a large sector of the race on foot, was climbing positions to get fourth on the race 5 kilometer. Ahead Stornes still maintained its advantage over its compatriots, although it was already losing the difference with Mola going to 1: 47.

Finally the young Norwegian Casper Stornes he claimed victory in his third World Series appearance with a time of 1:54:48. Behind Kristian Blummenfelt (1: 49: 21) came in second place and Gustav Iden (1:49:21) third. Mario Mola (1: 49: 52) came in fourth position, while Fernando Alarza He came in sixth position. Uxío Abuín has finished the test in a great 15ª position getting his best classification in a World Series
