The triathlon race Challenge Peguera Mallorca returns on October 16 in its XNUMXth edition with a historic lineup of internationally known athletes.

Professionals of 18 nationalities will dispute this medium distance through the Mallorcan municipality of Calvià after a year of hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

In the male category, the Danish Magnus Elbaek Ditlev and the German Frederic Funk They start as favorites based on their current positions in the Professional Triathletes Organization (PTO) ranking.

Magnus Ditlev's latest results include his 2nd position in The Championship, on August 29.

For his part, the German Frederic Funk faces the Calvià test after winning this year's Challenge St. Pölten and the Challenge Kaiserwinkl-Walchsee Triathlon European Championship.

In addition, other triathlon stars will join, such as the New Zealander Kyle Smith, winner of Challenge Wanaka 2021, the Swiss Ruedi Wild, third in the Challenge Peguera-Mallorca of 2019; the Spanish Albert Moreno Molins and Joan Nadal Clar, that the latter competes on his island; the British Thomas Davis or the American Collin cartier.

In the female category, the Swiss Nicola Spirig part as a favorite. Spirig was proclaimed last June European champion of medium distance triathlon in Challenge Kaiserwinkl-Walchsee and has also won in Challenge Davos and in Challenge Gran Canaria.

To dispute the triumph the French appear Manon Genet, runner-up in the long distance world a few weeks ago in Challenge Almere-Amsterdam, and the British Lucy Hall, winner in June of The Championship.

Challenge Peguera Mallorca stands out for combining the essence of Calvià and the island of Mallorca along its route, which combines beaches with crystal clear waters, a bike ride between traditional villages and rural landscapes and a final walk along the Peguera seafront. in the heat of the public. It combines fast stages with other more technical and challenging ones that are attractive to the participants themselves.

In fact and in its last edition, the Calvià test was awarded as the best triathlon test in the Challenge Family Awards 2019, a recognition granted directly by the athletes who disputed the different races of the international Challenge Family cycle.

A suitable place for the last race

The Challenge Peguera-Mallorca represents the last opportunity for professional athletes to score points in the Challenge Family ranking (and opt for important economic prizes among the first classified), since it is the last competition to take place on European territory.

This condition, together with the privileged geographical, climatic and equipment conditions that the municipality has, make this race an opportunity for athletes to conclude the triathlon season and take a break in a place of great tourist attraction.

In this sense, it should be noted that Calvià has more than 300 sunny days a year, sea and mountain landscapes to practice all kinds of sports throughout the year and a location very close to Mallorca's international airport.

Challenge Peguera Mallorca is an example of institutional collaboration and private initiative. Organized by the Fundación Calvià 2004 and the Calvià Town Hall in collaboration with the Spanish Triathlon Federation, the event also has the support of the Balearic Islands Tourism Strategy Agency (AETIB) and the Mallorca Turisme Foundation (Consell de Mallorca ).

Other entities such as the Hotel Association of Paguera and Cala Fornells, Challenge Family and brands such as Powerbar, Red Bull or Abus, among others that collaborate in the management of the event, also participate.
