The Torremolinos Grand Final will attract almost 20.000 people

Torremolinos will be the epicenter of the world triathlon from October 17 to 20, hosting the Triathlon World Championship Grand Final Torremolinos-Andalusia 2024.

This event, sponsored by the Department of Tourism, Culture and Sports of the Government of Andalusia, the Provincial Council of Malaga and the Torremolinos City Council, is positioned as one of the most important events of the year, along with the Olympic and Paralympic Games.

The test will have the participation of more than 4.000 athletes and waits for theattendance of nearly 20.000 peoples, generating a economic impact of more than 20 million euros.

The competitions will take place in several categories: elite, U23, Junior, Paratriathlon and Age Groups, in Sprint, Standard and Aquabike Standard distances, as well as Mixed Relays (U23/Junior, Paratriathlon and Age Groups).

An event of great magnitude

Torremolinos will be the center of all activities related to the Final, including the expo, the fair and the bib collection.

Arturo bernal, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sports of the Government of Andalusia, highlighted: “Andalusia has demonstrated its strength in the organization of large competitions and offers ideal facilities and climatic conditions for practicing sports. “This event will once again place the community at the center of international sport.”

The counselor also pointed out the importance of the event to inspire new athletes: “The Finals of the Torremolinos-Andalusia World Championship will be a first-class spectacle. "Everyone will look at Torremolinos and it will be an incentive for all those young athletes who are starting out or who for the first time dare to practice a sport as exciting and intense as triathlon."

Francis Salad, president of the Malaga Provincial Council, stressed: “The province has a very proven capacity to celebrate this type of sporting events. “This championship will have a significant tourist and economic impact for Torremolinos and the entire Costa del Sol.”

The mayor of Torremolinos, Margaret of the Cid, expressed his enthusiasm: “For us it is a very important day. I want to thank all the people who have made it possible. Much of the success of tourism in Torremolinos depends on the relationship between this municipality and sport. Hosting a test of these characteristics, with this level, is undoubtedly a great opportunity for Torremolinos and consolidates our commitment to sports tourism."

Marisol Married, president of World Triathlon and member of the IOC, also highlighted the personal importance of this event: “The week after the World Cup, we will have the World Triathlon electoral congress. After 16 years presiding over the International Federation, I am no longer running, so this will be historic for me. I am very grateful that my farewell is going to be here, in my country, and having seen what Andalusia is like many times, I know it is going to be great.”

José Hidalgo, president of the Managing Commission of the Spanish Triathlon Federation, commented on the uniqueness of the event: “It will be a unique World Cup. First, because it is the World Championship of the reunification of all the Age Group world championships (Olympic Distance, Sprint and Mixed Relay) after many years. It will also be the World Cup for the re-election of the presidency, so 170 delegations from all corners of the world will come to the congress. And it will also be the most important event that Spain will host in this Olympic year.”

Registration is open from April 29 for the Spanish Age Groups, with a 40% discount subsidized by the FETRI, thus facilitating the participation of a greater number of national athletes.
