Graus hosts the 2025 MD Duathlon Spanish Championship

El Spanish MD Duathlon Championship 2025 will be held for the first time in Graus on Saturday, March 1.
The Aragonese town, with a historical past dating back to the Paleolithic, is making its debut in the organisation of major events of the Spanish Triathlon Federation and will hold this event in its impressive natural setting, at the gateway to the Pyrenees.
Graus: a place with history and heritage
As the Mayor of Graus, José Antonio Lagüens, receiving this championship represents “an exciting and thrilling challenge” that recovers the spirit of two popular triathlon events held in the 90s.
For the entire Ribagorza region, hosting a national event of this category is a real satisfaction, and the town has thrown itself into its preparation.
In fact, nearly 140.000 euros have been invested in improving the indoor sports track, and the possibility of installing artificial turf on the football pitch and renovating the athletics track is already being studied.
In addition, Graus stands out for a very unique historical-artistic complex, with its Renaissance Plaza Mayor, basilica perched on an iconic rock and a medieval bridge that lights up at night.
As if that were not enough, the local gastronomy is a claim in itself, with the sausage and black truffle as the main stars to regain strength after the competition.
Competition details
The race will start at 14:00 p.m. for the Elite Men's participants. Three minutes later, it will be the turn of the Elite Women's, while at 14:05 p.m. those competing in the Elite will take the start. Spanish Paralympic Middle Distance Duathlon Championship. From 14:15 p.m., the successive departures of the Age Groups will take place.
Collection of race numbers and documentation will be done at the Office FETRI located at the Graus Football Field, on Friday, February 28 from 17:00 p.m. to 20:00 p.m., and on Saturday, March 1 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
Courses
Can you imagine riding a bike parallel to the reservoir and then putting on your shoes? slippers to run through the old town of a town with centuries of history? Well, that's what it will be like.
The walking route covers 9 km in three laps and takes you to the heart of Graus, while the 60 km cycling route includes four laps through an enviable natural environment.
- First and second race segment: 9 kilometres in three laps, with a start and finish point at the sports facilities and passing through the urban centre of Graus.
- Cycling segment: 60 kilometres in four laps. The route runs along the outskirts of the town and parallel to the Barasona reservoir Joaquin Costa.
Current champions
En 2024, the title of the Spanish MD Duathlon Championship also remained in Aragon, specifically in the town of Híjar, where Laura Gomez, competing independently, and Fernando Zorrilla, from the Stadium Casablanca Mapei, won the national title again.
Now, in 2025, all eyes are on them for this year.
