Gregory Barnaby makes history by winning the 2024 IRONMAN Pro Series in Taupō
The Italian triathlete Gregory barnaby He wrote his name in gold letters in the history of international triathlon by becoming the first male champion of the IRONMAN Pro Series.
The final classification was decided in the IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship 2024, held in Taupō, New Zealand, where the fight for points was intense until the last meter.
Barnaby arrived as leader of the classification, but the absence at the start of the race of the German Patrick Lange, who finished second in the general classification, was decisive.
His performance in Taupo was crucial. In the running section (21,1 km), Barnaby clocked a time of 1h12'05” which secured him ninth place in the final and, above all, the valuable 2.515 points that consolidated his leadership.
With a total of 19.059 points for the season, the Italian claimed the IRONMAN Pro Series crown.
Germany's Patrick Lange was second overall with 18.623 points, while Kristian Høgenhaug was third with 18.528 points.
An unprecedented economic prize
With a $200.000 bonus for winning the Pro Series, Barnaby said that in 20 years of triathlon, he had never won a similar prize.
Patrick Lange earned $130.000 for his second place finish, while Høgenhaug earned $85.000.
The rest of the top 10 also received notable prizes, reaching a total distribution of 1,3 million dollars among the best classified.
In addition, triathletes placed between 11th and 50th position received $5.000 each, which supports the effort and perseverance of all the professionals involved in the series.
