Gustavo Rodríguez and Aída Valiño proclaim themselves Spanish Triathlon MD Champions - Ecotrimad

The Spanish Championship of Middle Distance Triathlon - Ecotrimad has given us two wins with a Galician flavor, proclaiming Aída Valiño and Gustavo Rodríguez as new champions of the category in elite category.

 

 

The day was held on Saturday 14 June, for the environment of the spectacular Madrid town of Buitrago del Lozoya, located in the Sierra de Guadarrama.

 

La heat wave that ravaged the Iberian Peninsula these days made an appearance from the beginning of the competition, increasing the difficulty of a vibrant day that brought great duels in both elite male and female category. The male elite was the first to take the exit, at 12 at noon, for the impressive Puentes Viejas reservoir.

 

After performing the 1900 m swim and after passing through the transition zone, Jesus Gomar was the first to start the 74 km cyclists. A particularly arduous segment, with an accumulated unevenness of 1150 m, added to the various slides that made up the route. A sector that crossed the adjoining towns of Paredes de Buitrago, Mangirón, Serrada, Berzosa, Robledillo de la Jara and Cervera de Buitrago.

 

At the beginning of the two laps of this section, Gomar and Miguel Ángel Fidalgo were leading the test, until Gustavo Rodríguez, who was recovering positions in this segemnto, caught up with them, to then leave Fidalgo behind and maintain an intense duel up front with Gomar.

 

Finally, Rodriguez made his great conditions prevail in this segment and he slipped solo at the beginning of the second round, while the triathlete of Gandía would see his options fade to the podium for an inopportune puncture. The Galician would arrive at the T2 with a good income, ready to defend his advantage and face the last stretch of 21 km of running.

 

Behind, Miguel Angel Fidalgo began the sector located in the second place with Xavier Torrades and Alexis Rodríguez occupying the third and fourth place at the beginning of the segment. At the beginning of the second round, Fidalgo marched in front of the competition with Gustavo Rodríguez second and Alejandro Santamaría in third position.

 

In the end, the strong heat and great wear made a dent in a Fidalgo that was dwindling and Gustavo Rodriguez maintained its optimum level to get back on the reigns of the test. In this way, the triathlete of the Cidade de Lugo Fluvial crossed the finish line in first position to proclaim himself champion of the modality elite.

 

The runner-up was reserved for a Alejandro Santamaría (A300W Elche TC) who performed at a great level throughout the test. While a splendid Raúl Amatraian (Saltoki Trikideak) reaped the third place on the podium, after staging a powerful comeback in the race on foot. The male Sub23 podium was formed by Josep Torres (Triathlon Ibiza Fanegas) who won the title and Cristóbal Dios (Triathlon Galaico) who won the second place in the category.

 

The final section consisted of two laps of 10,5 km each, incorporating notable slopes, including a climb to the Riosequillo dam. In turn, it has also traveled part of the medieval area of ​​Buitrago, with the emblematic castle in the background and crossing the imposing wall, and after 21 km finish in the square of this Madrid town, with the goal located next to the medieval wall and inside the castle.

 

In females, Aido Valiño He played a stellar role, positioning himself in the first places since the start of the competition. Thus, Valiño was the first to complete the swim segment, and came first from the T1 with a notable advantage over his rivals. The Galician retained the lead along the cycling circuit after 74 km, enter in the lead to the second transition with a wide advantage over the second classified, Judith Corcachán and further away, Elena Aguilar left in third position.

 

The race on foot was the biggest obstacle for the triathlete of the Cidade de Lugo Fluvial, and despite being in the lead after making the first round of the course, an impressive Corachán was stalking Valiño, climbing positions during the second round, until overtaking Galician

 

 Everything made foresee that the triathlete of the CN Prat-Triatlo would reach the victory, but in the absence of 7 km, the Galician managed to recover the leadership, and would not let go until winning the victory with a final time of 4: 35: 57. On the other hand, Corachán he won the silver medal and Esther Rodriguez, member also of the Cidade de Lugo Fluvial, achieved the bronze medal, entering more than four minutes from the winner. While in the Sub23 category, Ane Ziaran, from Saltoki Trikideak, won the race.

 

Two thrilling triumphs, in a vibrant day that has gone through some scenarios of charm. An event that has given us unforgettable moments.
