Gwen Jorgensen: The start of the 2025 WTCS season

Gwen Jorgensen, gold medalist at the 2016 Games, is preparing to start the 2025 season with her sights set on the first race of the World Triathlon Series (WTCS).
After six years away from triathlon to start a family and get back to a good level, he returns with a number #9 which reflects how much he climbed in the rankings last season.
The first test calendar will be held this weekend in Abu Dhabi.
The American has shared on social media that she will feel a dose of nerves before the start, something she does not hide despite her extensive list of achievements.
It's normal. Although she is one of the most experienced on the starting line, there is always some uncertainty due to possible changes in location, pressure from rivals and even last-minute unforeseen events. She herself says that her strategy involves focusing on what she masters: her effort, her pace and adapting to whatever arises.
How to deal with nerves
In his own words, nerves arise from the uncertainty of each race.
To control them, Gwen He says he focuses on what he can master: his effort and his pacing strategy. He also explains that he has a flexible race plan, focusing on execution and adapting to possible course changes or unexpected conditions.

His progress after six years away
During 2024, the triathlete traveled to different parts of the world to earn points and be able to compete in the WTCS regularly.
That season ended with a creditable sixth place in Weihai and a twelfth place in the Torremolinos Final. He then closed the year with a victory in the Miyazaki World Cup, proving that his quality and experience are still valid.
With the absence of the world champions of the previous two years (Beth Potter and Cassandre Beaugrand) confirmed in this first test, Jorgensen is placed as one of the favorites.
Still, other renowned figures, such as Laura Lindemann y Lisa Tertsch from Germany, as well as Leonie Periault from France, will seek to surpass it.
The participation of the British also stands out. Kate Waugh and US Taylor Spivey, who are hoping for an outstanding result before moving on to compete in the middle distance.
Expectations for the 2025 season
Looking ahead to the new year, the former Olympic champion hopes to continue adding podiums in the World Series and try to take another step towards her return to the elite.
