ICAN Triathlon Gandia 2024: The Most International Edition to Date

This coming Saturday, October 19, Gandia will host the 11th edition of the ICAN Triathlon, one of the most important competitions in the Valencian Community's sporting calendar.

This year, the event presents its most international edition, with triathletes from 18 countries and foreign participation reaching almost 9% of the total.

All of this will take place in the iconic Borgia's Wharf, next to the Gandia Promenade, which will be the scene of a day full of excitement and challenge for the 1.248 registered triathletes.

El Councillor for Sports, Jesus Naveiro, as well as the Manager of the Valencian Community Triathlon Federation, Arthur Navarro, were in charge of leading the official presentation of the event, in which the “finisher” shirt for the Full distance and the commemorative jersey of this edition were also unveiled, designed in collaboration with Run&Pro.

“This event has a high economic impact on the city. It is an important boost for our tourism and hospitality sector, with more than 1.000 athletes and their companions generating activity throughout the week and weekend,” he said. Jesus Naveiro.

Gandia is preparing to welcome a total of 1.248 triathletes, with a notable 17,4% of them women and 80% of the participants expected to spend at least one night in the city, contributing significantly to the deseasonalisation of tourism in the region.

The ICAN Triathlon has become a true end of season event for many triathlon clubs throughout Spain, with teams coming from the Community of Madrid, the Basque Country and Navarra, among others.

Favorites

In the men's Full category, Roger Manya Valenzuela of the team ANB Triathlon tops the list of favorites followed by Nacho Villarruel Curra of the Ohana Koa Team y Carlos Aznar of the CDE TRIBOOST.

Other participants to note are:  Emmanuel lejeune y Jon Ander Uribarri Ormaza of the Saltoki Trikideak.

In the female category, the fight will be between Steffie Le Bénézic of the Penota Dental Alusigma, Ana Camino Lacarte y Patricia Bueno Perez among others

Weekend Program

El ICAN Triathlon will begin on Friday with the distribution of race numbers starting at 12:00 p.m.

At 17:00 p.m., the material control will be activated and, subsequently, the technical briefings will be held in English and Spanish.

At 19:30 p.m., the triathlete and national coach Julen Díez will share a talk-colloquium with the “10 essential tips to run the best ICAN Triathlon”. This activity will take place in the ground zero of the event and will be open to all interested parties.

Saturday will be the main day of the competition, with the awards ceremony for the distances Shorts y Aquabike MD and LD at 12:30 and 18:00 respectively.

On Sunday, distances reign, Full y Half, will have their awards ceremony at 11:00 a.m. at the Gandia Polytechnic University.
