ICAN Triathlon Gandía celebrates 10 years with record participation
This year there will be 1.374 registered entrants on the starting line.
The first Long Distance triathlon in the Valencian Community celebrates 10 years of history with an edition that will start next Friday with the official presentation at 12.00:16.30 p.m., and that will continue with the delivery of numbers from 21:8.00 p.m. in the Plaza del Puerto de Gandia, to continue on Saturday, October XNUMX at XNUMX:XNUMX a.m., time at which the triathletes will start at the Port of Gandia.
The multi-event competition will begin with the Short distance that broke registration record with 500 covered seats, and will have 4 exits.
The Half and Aquabike MD distance will follow with 4 new starts and 620 places to finish in the Full distance, the queen of ICAN Triathlon, in which the participants of the Aquabike LD will also start, with around 250 registered.
Review of winners in 10 years of ICAN Triathlon
The first edition of ICAN Triathlon Gandia It was held in 2014 with Peter Seidel and Kathrin Walther as winner.
The test had 307 participants and since that moment it has never stopped being held, also being the only test in this format held during the pandemic in 2020, when 112 participants took the start, in an edition full of new security measures.
In the last edition Nacho Villarruel was proclaimed the winner, after having tried in 2021, when he entered the finish line 2nd and Gonzalo Fuentes of Alusigma Peñota Dental Portugaletekoa won the test, with an exceptional time, record for the test, of 8:18:09.
Ana López from Fitness Sports Triathlon completed the women's podium in 2021. Let us remember that in 2020 Nacho Villarruel already won the competition for the first time, along with Mónica Salamanqués, in the pandemic edition.
In 2022 Tessa Kortekas from CD Zero Wattios arrived in Gandia to set a time of 9:41:34, and win the race, closely followed by Emma Cowper who took 2nd position with 9:46:49.
Great lineup of professionals
This year we will have Pakillo Fernández-Cortés and Kristian Quintans as favorites for the Full distance. The list of favorites is completed by Paweł Frąckiewicz, José López Soto, Pablo Cueto, Carlos Aznar, Rafael Lao and Roberto Ruiz.
Among the women, the veteran Helena Herrero will be the strong rival. She will have Croatia's elite international, Sonja Skevin, who will also fight to win the event. The long distance competition repeats this year as the LD Regional Championship, as well as the Aquabike MD and LD.
In the middle distance, we will have the 2023 Regional Middle Distance Champion, Ramón Ejeda, as a favorite in the HALF, who will be accompanied by triathletes such as Ander Noain, Kerman Alonso, Óscar Mompó, Ferran Cunyat, the former Olympic cyclist Alexander Kolobnev, Olympic medalist in Beijing 2008, who debuts in the middle distance, and also starts as a favorite, or Ander Michelena.
Financial prizes will be distributed for the Full and Half winners: €1000 for the long distance winner, and €500 for the half distance winner.
We also have the collaboration of Syncrosfera Fitness & Sport Hotel, which will give the Full winner a weekend stay for him/her and a companion.
Additionally, in the competition there will be a flying goal to reward the fastest and fast in the cycling segment in both Full and Half. This is the II Tavernes de la Valldigna Grand Prize.
Fun for companions
Family members and companions will have a live concert by the ACAMDO Rock School of Orihuela, directed by Toni Correa, who will delight the public and followers with a classic rock repertoire.
We will also have a specialized store and 360º photo service for post-finish triathletes, as well as mechanical service. Nutrition will be provided by NutriSport, which will transport its personalized truck to Gandia.
How to follow the test live?
The public will be able to follow the competition through the TRICV APP, in which they can select favorite numbers and locate them in real time in the different segments of the competition (download here). In addition, the app allows you to upload photos in competition and download data and profiles of each triathlete.
On October 21, the test closes the triathlon season in the Valencian Community, with 70% national participation and 30% foreigners.
ICAN Triathlon Gandia has the collaboration of the towns: Gandia, Cullera, Tavernes de la Valldigna, Xeresa and Xeraco.
The competition would not be possible without the 150 volunteers, and a staff of 110 people, including the organizational team, time trial and officials.
