Ignacio González second in the European Cup of Huelva

The victory has been for the British Barclay Izzard

After the women's event, where we saw the victory of the young Pauline Landron and the great second place of the Spanish Cecilia Santamaría, it was the turn of the men's race where we had 24 Spanish triathletes.

The start was at 12:15 with the two laps of 750 meters of swimming on the beach of Puerta Umbría where the first to come out of the water was the Hungarian Márk Dévay followed by Kevin Tarek and Alberto González at 7 seconds. The group came out 7 seconds behind very stretched.

The cyclist segment, had a first part of union between Puerta Umbria and Huelva was very fast as it ran along a highway, then 4 5 turns around the city in a circuit with many curves.

In the first kilometers we saw how a group of 21 was formed in a very compact head with several leading Spaniards Kevin Tarek, Guillen Montiel, Ignacio and Alberto González, Genis Grau, Jordi García and Romaric Forqués

After the first 20 kilometers and already in the passage through the 1º lap in the city, the group of head passed with about 1 minute on the pursuer group.

Finally in the last kilometers attacked the Hungarian Márk Dévay leaving alone and arriving at the T2 with 48 seconds on the head of the pursuer group of 20 units.

In the first round of the running sector the British Barclay Izzard went out shooting by the head of the race, cutting distance to pass by goal to only 23 seconds ahead. 13 seconds behind Ben Dijkstra, Tom Richard, Ignacio and Alberto Gonzalez and Genis Grau with options to fight for the podium.

Barclay Izzard overtook Dévay in the second round with 20 seconds ahead of a group of Spaniards Ignacio González, Genis Grau and Briton Ben Dijkstra.

Finally the victory was for the British Barclay Izzard with a time of 1:52:01. In the fight for second place we saw Ignacio González (1:52:24) who in a strong attack on the third round, left his pursuers to catch up with the Hungarian Dévay and get second place and the title of Ibero-American Champion . Third place went to Ben Dijstra (1:52:31).

Genis Grau was sixth, Kevin Tarek tenth, Gullen Montiel 11º, Javier Romo 14º and Jordi García 19º.
