The Kailua-Kona Challenge
This year's field of triathletes faced the three demanding stages of the route of the IRONMAN Kona: 3,8 km of swimming, 180,2 km of cycling y 42,2 km of foot race.
The test began with swimming in the crystal clear waters of the Kailua Bay, where athletes had to deal with ocean currents.
The second stage, the challenging cycling segment of 180,2 km, took the triathletes along the famous Queen Ka'ahumanu Highway, a road that runs through lava fields and rolling hills, testing the physical and mental endurance of the participants. The characteristic wind of the area, as well as the high temperatures, added an additional level of difficulty.
Finally, the stage of Foot race de 42,2 km took the athletes along the coast, with a route that included the ascent to the Palani Hill and a journey towards the Natural Energy Laboratory of Hawai'i before returning to the iconic Ali'i Drive, where thousands of spectators applauded each athlete who crossed the finish line.
