IRONMAN South Africa: duel between Marten Van Riel and Magnus Ditlev

This coming Sunday, March 30, the World Cup will be held in Nelson Mandela Bay. HOMBRE DE HIERRO South Africa, second test of the 2025 season of the IRONMAN Pro Series and first full IRONMAN distance of the calendar.
This South African event will see some of the best triathletes in the world, led by a spectacular duel between the Belgian Marten Van Riel and the Danish Magnus ditlev, currently number one and two in the world rankings of the PTO.
Van Riel, going for his first Ironman victory
Marten Van Riel, T100 world champion and great dominator of the middle distance with seven wins in his last eight events since 2019, is looking for his first victory in the Ironman distance after his eventful debut in Cozumel, where he lost more than 20 minutes due to a fall in the bike finishing in seventh position.
Magnus Ditlev, experience and consistency
He will face a much more experienced long-distance triathlete, the Danish Magnus ditlev, runner-up in Kona 2024 and third in Nice in 2023, who also has four victories in IRONMAN events.
His consistency among the world's elite over the past four years positions him as one of the big favorites.
Leon Chevalier seeks to repeat his success
The French Leon chevalier, third in Cozumel ahead of Van Riel and winner in South Africa in 2023, arrives as one of the most solid triathletes with a clear chance of repeating his victory. His track record at the IRONMAN World Championships also supports him, with three consecutive top-10 finishes.
The South African town has seen numerous athletes triumph, returning this year. The Swedish athlete stands out. rasmus svenningsson, winner in 2024, third in 2021 and fourth in 2023. The Australian should not be lost sight of either cam wurf with several top-5s, and the New Zealander Mike Phillips, recent winner in New Zealand.
On the Spanish side in the men's category, we will have in action Pello Osoro, who will seek to be among the top positions and achieve an outstanding performance in this demanding test.
