Javier Gómez Noya: "I always compete to give everything"

Javier has not been able specifically prepare this test by focusing on the World Series

Just 7 days after having achieved the World title official of the international federation, Javier Gómez Noya faces the Half Ironman distance (2km swimming, 90 cycling, 21 on foot) depending on the organization of the Hawaii Ironman.

It is also played in Canada, in Mont Tremblant (near Montreal), where Javier arrived with his coach Carlos David Prieto on Monday after the success of Edmonton.

A triathlon that has not been able to prepare specifically to be focused on the World Series, in which in addition to the increase in distance the big difference is that cycling is done alone, with the classic rules of triathlon.

That's why the bike is kind time trial, in the case of Javier, a Specialized Shiv that the brand has specially decorated.

Almost 3000 will participate triathletes from all over the world, being 50 the men's Elite round, who will be the first to throw themselves into Lake Tremblant at 8 in the local morning, 14: 00 in the afternoon in Spain. There will be many of the best specialists in that distance, some of them in their day rivals of Gómez Noya in the Olympic distance as the German Jan Frodeno (gold in Beijing) and the British Tim Don (2006 world champion).

Javier has only played in his life two triathlons of this distance: in Calella 2013 and in Panama in February 2014, where he managed to compete in Canada. In both he achieved the victory but did not have the level of rivals he will have on Sunday: “It is going to be a very wearisome triathlon. For the distance, the hardness of the routes and the competition. Cycling is a round with quite a difference in the last 20 kilometers. And on foot two turns, all slides. The rivals are used to competing at this distance and I cannot be guided by their references. I will regulate the effort as I feel to be able to give everything at the end since in the third phase many differences can be marked. There are people who ride very hard like Kienle, Starykowicz and Bozzone; keeping up with them could be dangerous. I will also have to be very aware of nutrition and hydration, something that in the Sprint and Olympic distances is not so relevant ”.

In the triathlon world there is great anticipation of what Gómez Noya can do in front of specialists in this distance. Despite their lack of experience, everyone knows, and they fear, that if the Galician player comes to the second transition and with not much time lost in front of the leaders, in the phase on foot he is able to carry a rhythm that would place him in goal in the first positions: "This Half Ironman is an extra to a season in which I have already fulfilled the main objective by winning the World Series. That is why I face it with enthusiasm but without the pressure of being forced to win. But of course I always compete to give everything ".

The triathlon can be followed in direct -at least with classifications, text and photos- on the website ironmanlive.com
