Javier Gómez Noya Plata in Yokohama

This morning Javier Gómez Noya has made a brilliant competition in the Japanese town of Yokohama, where he has achieved the second position after a disputed final. During the penultimate round of the Triathlon World Series, the triathlete born in Basel has struggled at all times to reach the top of the podium.

The first segment was formed by two laps of 750 m each, with an exit at the Osanbashi wharf. Ferrolano has finished the swim in fourth place just five seconds behind the first qualifier, the Slovak Richard Varga.

The cycle section consisting of eight laps, until the corresponding 40 km, has been full of continuous oscillations and attempts to escape. The only Spaniard in the field, Javier Gómez Noya, has occupied the top positions for a good part of the segment. However, on the seventh lap Kris Gemmell and Yuichi Hosada managed to get away from the rest and headed towards the T2.

At the exit of the T2, the Galician has placed sixth in 50 seconds of the leading duo. In a thrilling 5 km of running, a spectacular Javi has increased the pace by first chasing Gemmell and after him to the Japanese Hosoda in the first of the four laps of the sector. In this way, Gómez Noya sat at the front of the race, leading the segment during the first two laps; with the Portuguese Joao Silva and the Russian Dmitry Polyanskiy seven seconds behind the Galician.

Already in the third round, the Portuguese has reached the Spanish, and then there have been constant changes with the Russian also entering the battle for gold. After them, the French Laurent Vidal and David Hauss headed the persecuted group, trying to shorten distances.

Halfway through the fourth and last lap, the Galician has launched an attack and together with Silva he left behind the Russian Polyanskiy. Shortly after, the Luso made a change of pace to escape solo to the finish line, proclaiming champion of the Japanese event.

For his part, Gómez Noya has been awarded the silver medal after making a great exhibition, fighting for gold until the end. After them, Dmitry Polyanskiy has entered third place.

Previously in the elite women's competition, the Swedish Lisa Norden took the victory in a very tight final, in which she crossed the finish line together with the German Anne Haug, ultimately a silver medal. Behind, the young Maaike Caelers has achieved bronze.
