Jordi Montraveta fifth in the Embrunman

Today the 40th edition of the legendary Embrunman Triathlon was held in the French Alps.

The test, known for its toughness and demand, brought together some of the best triathletes in the specialty facing a 3,8 km swimming route in Lake Embrun, 188 km of cycling with the ascent of the mythical Col d'Izoard and a final marathon through the streets of Embrun.

The Spanish shine in a men's race

The men's start was led by a group of French triathletes, among whom Simon Viain, one of the favorites, stood out.

The first Spaniard to leave the water was Ramon Ejeda, closely followed by Alberto Casillas and Gonzalo Fuentes. Jordi Montraveta and Pello Osoro completed the Spanish quintet in this first segment.

In the cycling segment, the climb to the Col d'Izoard marked a turning point in the race. Menneson maintained the lead, but Theo Debard got into the fight for the podium.

The Spaniards Montraveta and Fuentes remained in the top 15. Alberto Casillas had to retire before Pallon.

In the foot race Montraveta, eleventh in T2, made a great comeback, placing seventh. Fuentes also climbed positions, while Unzueta, after a brilliant performance, was forced to abandon.

The last kilometers were a carousel of emotions. Montraveta, sixth, saw Christian Storzer penalized, opening up the possibility of reaching the podium.

Finally, the victory went to Louis Richard, followed by Clement Grandy y Simon Viain.

Jordi Montraveta finished in a great fifth position, while Gonzalo Fuentes completed the top 10. Pello Osoro finished seventeenth.

On the bike, Nina Derron took the lead, closely followed by Emma Bilham and Judith Corachán. However, Corachán's withdrawal left the fight for the podium in the hands of the Swiss and the Frenchwoman Jeanne Collonge, who staged a great comeback on the ascent to the Col d'Izoard.

Collonge arrived at T2 with an advantage of more than 7 minutes, but in the marathon, Emma Bilham was closing the distance until she surpassed her at kilometer 33.
