Jorge Crivillés will finish the challenge of the "7 Oceans" with the 25 km of the Cook Strait in January

Its objective is to swim across the 7 most difficult routes in open water

The Alicante swimmer Jorge Crivilles, specialized in long distance crossings, has confirmed that it will try to cross the  Cook Strait in New Zealand between the next 18 and 22 of next January

This crossing consists of crossing the Cook Strait, which has a distance of 25 kilometers between Tasmanian Sea and the Pacific Ocean to complete your objective of the 7 Oceans ”, Swim across the 7 most difficult routes in open water, becoming the first Spaniard to do so.

This swim is one of the most complicated due to the strength of the currents in that area.

He already tried to cross it last April, but due to bad weather conditions, he had to postpone it until next January.

On its way to get the 7 oceans, has completed the Tsugaru Canal crossings in Japan, the Malokai Canal in Hawaii, Santa Catalina in the United States, the English Channel, as well as this year the Nort Channele between Ireland and Scotland, which in 2018 could not culminate due to hypothermia, and the Strait of Gibraltar.

Crivillés told the Efe agency that the experience of crossing the North Channel was "terrible", after completing at the end of last August the challenge of uniting Ireland and Scotland in a 42-kilometre journey in which he spent almost thirteen hours.

"The last hours were terrible because the sea was very complicated," said the man from Alicante, who said he was "satisfied" for having passed a "tremendously tough" test, he revealed.

"It took a lot to overcome the 'cemetery of dreams' (area of ​​strong currents), but I am very happy because I couldn't wait to put an end to this channel," he said, referring to the numerous occasions in which he traveled to carry out the test. and could not do it due to weather issues.
