José Almagro retires from triathlon: “This moment had to come”

Madrid-born triathlete José Almagro, a leading figure in national duathlon and triathlon, has announced his official retirement from competitive sport.
After 17 years of a successful sports career, the athlete has decided to end his competitive stage to focus on his recovery and being with his loved ones.
A farewell after a tough battle
In February of this year, José Almagro was diagnosed with an intracranial tumor, which led him to undergo a complex medical treatment that included 30 sessions of radiotherapy and 70 of chemotherapy.
During this time, sport was one of the pillars that kept him going, but now the athlete believes it is time to prioritize his health and his family.
A legacy full of triumphs
José Almagro began his triathlon career in 2008, after having been a professional cyclist.
Throughout his career, he has achieved numerous successes, including more than 15 titles of Champion of Madrid, 5 medals in Spanish Championships, and two meritorious Fifth places in Vitoria and Challenge Madrid.
He was also an international twice and always stood out as a benchmark in duathlon events.
A thank you to all his colleagues
Almagro did not want to say goodbye without thanking all those who have accompanied him on this journey.
In his statement, he mentioned his sponsors, teammates, rivals and organizers of the events, as well as the different clubs he has been part of, especially the CT Las Rozas, where he closes his sporting career. He also acknowledged the unconditional support of his family and friends, who have been fundamental in his career.

A new stage focused on his own
The athlete makes it clear that, although he is leaving the competition, he will remain linked to the sport.
However, his priority now is to fully recover and take advantage of this new opportunity in life surrounded by his loved ones. "I take with me experiences, friends, trips and an infinite number of good times," said Almagro, who says goodbye with his head held high and the pride of having been a benchmark in Spanish triathlon.

“This moment had to come,” said José, referring to the inevitable end of his career as a triathlete.
Despite the difficulties that life has put before him, he is grateful for everything he has achieved and for the opportunity to continue enjoying everyday life.
