Kristian Blummenfelt, PTO Athlete of the Month for August after the Frankfurt Ironman
Norwegian triathlete Kristian Blummenfelt has been recognized as Athlete of the Month for August by the PTO (Professional Triathletes Organisation), following his victory at the Frankfurt Ironman.
With a total time of 7:27:21, Blummenfelt recorded the third fastest marathon in history of discipline with a time of 2: 32: 29.
This award comes at a crucial time for the Norwegian, who during the first half of the year had focused on short distances and his preparation for the Paris Olympic Games.
I was focused on short distances
Prior to his win in Frankfurt, Blummenfelt had made it clear that his focus was on shorter distances, creating some uncertainty about how he would manage a race as demanding as an Ironman.
Speaking on the podcast “The Norwegian Method,” Blummenfelt said: “I went in with very limited preparation. When I was on the starting line, I thought I was going to run as hard as I could until I couldn’t go any further.
“I was prepared to last only three or four hours, but I was surprised how I was able to hold on until the second half of the bike segment.”
During the marathon, although he had to stop briefly to go to the bathroom, he managed to recover quickly and continue at a strong pace. “I felt good and light in my stride, which gave me confidence to maintain the pace during the run,” he explained.
