FETRI advances in the 2021 Competition Calendar

Venues, dates of some of their competitions are already known

The Spanish Triathlon Federation has published a calendar preview for the 2021 season, where there will be quite a few new features [no_toc]

5 weekends of national triathlon championships

During the year 2021 five weekends with national Triathlon competitions are set.

Three of them will include a total of seven days of the National Club League, and the other two the individual national championships, which will present slight novelties with respect to the usual.

There are four confirmed dates, Saturdays and Sundays June 5 and 6; June 19 and 20; September 4 and 5; and September 25 and 26, with a weekend yet to be confirmed.

They are also confirmed venues for these events A Coruña, Águilas, Banyoles y Pontevedra, subtracting one more city that will be released soon.

El Spain Middle Distance Triathlon Championship will be disputed in Bilbao on September 18, 2021, and on Long distance en Platja d'Aro, Girona, on May 30.

Aquathlon, Duathlon and Triathlon Cros Championships

A great novelty in the FETRI 2021 calendar will be the incorporation of the Aquathlon Spanish Championship to the same weekend in which the Cros Triathlon and Cros Duathlon, which will take place on a date to be confirmed at the facilities of The Ring, in Extremadura, an ideal place in the middle of nature and Extremadura meadow.

Winter triathlon

El Spanish Winter Triathlon Championship 2021 will take place at the historic Ansó site on February 14, and will be the first test of the season.

4 duathlon weekends

In Duathlon, the year 2021 will have four weekends with national events, aside from qualifiers that will be reported soon.

Three of the weekends will include a total of seven days of the National Club League, and the fourth the national individual Duathlon championships.

The dates of March 27 and 28 are confirmed; April 10 and 11; April 24 and 25; and May 8 and 9.

There is a venue pending confirmation, La Nucía will premiere in the Valencian Community, and Alcobendas and Avilés will repeat.

Another novelty on the calendar will be the headquarters ofl Spanish Medium Distance Duathlon Championshipa, together with the Spanish Short Distance Duathlon Championship (only for age groups) pending date and to be held in Híjar, Aragón.

The Spanish Individual Triathlon Championships in 2021 will be held over two weekends.

One will be dedicated to Age Groups that will compete on Sprint distance, as well as paratriathletes, while the Cadet, Youth and Junior categories will do so on SuperSprint distance and with semifinal and final formats.

The other weekend of competitions will have the Olympic distance as a goal for Age Groups, while youth and junior triathletes will participate in Sprint distance.

On each of these weekends, and linked to each of the events listed, the Spanish Sprint and Olympic Triathlon Championships will be held normally.

In the case of the individual Duathlon, the same format will be followed as in the Triathlon for the Spanish Championship.

Duathletes of Age Groups will compete in this case in Sprint distance, while the cadet, youth and junior categories will compete in SuperSprint distance and with the format of semifinals and final.

Qualifiers, Spanish Cup and Middle and Long Distance Ranking

In the 2021 season, up to a maximum of three qualifiers for the Spanish Championship of Duathlon, up to a maximum of three for the Spanish Championship of Sprint Triathlon, and up to a maximum of 3 for the Spanish Triathlon Championship in Olympic distance.

The dates and venues will be announced in the coming weeks once the selection process has concluded, seeking the best competitions for athletes from all over the country who wish to seek their national classification.

Creation of a national Medium and Long Distance Triathlon ranking.

Likewise, the medium and long distance will have news in 2021 such as the creation of a national ranking of Medium and Long Distance Triathlon.

This ranking will incorporate in a first level, the two Spanish championships, in a second level up to 4 tests of the Copa de España Media y Larga Distancia, and in a third level up to 12 tests valid for the Ranking Average and Long Distance.

A Spanish Cup and a MD and LD Ranking that will have important financial prizes in a season full of incentives.

Modifications in formats and categories

In line with the future project of international triathlon, FETRI varies the ages of the cadet categories, for athletes of 14 and 15 years, and of the youth category, to which athletes with 16 and 17 years are incorporated.

In addition, cadet athletes will only be able to compete up to SuperSprint distance, which affects the configuration of the championships in which our future international representatives prepare at a competitive level, and the traditional program of the Spanish Sprint and Olympic Triathlon championships will vary slightly. .
