The Irish Eimear Mullan and the German Hörmann, winners of the International Triathlon of Portocolom 2014

The seventeenth edition of the International Triathlon of Portocolom has once again held a very exciting day with two epic victories in the women's and men's category.

The Irish Eimear Mullan he achieved his third victory in Porto Colom advancing in the last meters of the running segment on foot to Eva Wutti. The young German Markus Hörmann he achieved his first victory as a professional also climbing in the foot race to wrest the triumph from Florian Kriegl. On this fantastic spring day, 700 triathletes participated covering the two tests (55.5 and 111) in this traditional event that is one of the first in the European calendar.

Today we have lived in Porto Colom (Felanitx) a very exciting day of triathlon with two victories forged in the last segment of the competition (after 1 km of swimming, 100 km of cycling and 10 km of foot race) in which Eimear Mullan and Markus Hörmann have been able to take the first position after fantastic comeback paths.

The Irish Eimear Mullan has achieved her third victory in the International Triathlon of Portocolom advancing in the last meters to the two triathletes that preceded her after the demanding cycling segment. Mullan crossed the finish line in 4h02: 26 after surpassing the Austrian Eva Wutti, a formidable cyclist, second in goal, and the German Julia Gajer (third), with a very low income of less than 10 seconds. “I have suffered a lot to win, but I am very fond of this test, it is very special for me because here I achieved my first victory at 2010, and I pressed until the end. Although I came out of the water well, the bike is very hard and I had to run to the top to reach Wutti and Gajer, two very strong rivals, ”Mullan said after crossing the finish line.

In the men's category, the German Markus Hörmann maintained a beautiful pulse throughout the competition with Florian Kriegl, who hunted just before reaching the lighthouse of Portocolom. The Austrian Kiegl took the lead in the cycling segment after overtaking Miguel Ángel Fidalgo (first triathlete during swimming), and although he achieved an advantage of just over a minute in the second transition, Hörmann knew how to neutralize him and get his first victory As a professional triathlete. Another German, Fabian Juergen Rahn took the podium as third place. “I knew that going up to Sant Salvador twice was going to be tough, but not so much! The race is very beautiful, and it lasts, but I found myself running very well and I was able to win, ”he said. Balearic Joan Nadal was fifth and first Spanish in goal after a fantastic cycling segment.

In parallel there was also a 55.5 test (500 m of swimming, 50 of cycling and 5 of running on foot) that concluded with the victories of the Swiss Sandrine Benz and the Spaniard Oscar Vicente.

There were also famous faces competing in Portocolom, such as former professional cyclist Marcel Wust and Formula 1 driver Pedro Martínez de la Rosa, who competed in relay making the 100 km of cycling with his brothers.
