ITU cancels two World Cups for 2020

The two tests that will not continue are the Cape Town World Cup (South Africa), and the Antwerp (Belgium).

The International Triathlon Federation (ITU) has published a statement explaining the suspension of two tests of its calendar for the 2020.

The two tests that will not continue are the Cape Town World Cup (South Africa), and the Antwerp (Belgium).

The main cause has been the lack of sponsors and support from the new local government.

The World Cup in South Africa, suspended due to lack of sponsors

Despite all the efforts made by the Organizing Committee, Triathlon South Africa and the ITU to find new sponsors and financially support the event, the organizers of the Cape Town World Cup have decided to cancel the event.

With this they are trying to minimize the impact this will have on athletes and coaches planning for the 2020 season.

Cape Town has hosted during the last years the test that began the World Cup season.

The cup in Belgium, suspended for lack of support from the municipal government

In the case of the Antwerp World Cup, which will take place Belgium on June 21 of 2020, the change in the municipal government of the city has led to organizers not having the usual support of the city.

The World Cup dispute in the same location as in the last two years, at the moment it is not possible, therefore, the organizers and the National Federation of Belgium have requested that the event be removed from the ITU calendar.

There are no previous results.
