The ITU joins the International Paralympic Committee

Last weekend in Beijing, the union of the International Triathlon Union with the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) was made official during the 15th IPC General Assembly.

ITU President and IOC Member Marisol Casado attended the General Assembly in China together with Dr. Sarah Springman – ITU Vice President and Executive Board Representative to the ITU Para Triathlon Committee. Marisol Casado stated that she felt honored to witness this moment of great importance for the ITU, for the sport of Paratriathlon and for all para triathletes.

“Since it was announced that Paratriathlon would be included in the program of the Rio 2016 Para Olympic Games, ITU has worked together with the IPC to raise the standards of competition for paratriathletes around the world and to make this reality a reality. first Paralympic participation,” he said.

“Now, as a member of the IPC, it is an honor for us to be an official part of the vibrant Paratriathlon family and to be able to take our sport to ever higher levels. It will not only be those athletes who will compete in Rio who will achieve the dream of being Para-Olympians, but that all Para-triathletes will be able to be part of the International Para-Olympics family,” said Casado. “It is an honor to officially join this Para Olympic family, on behalf of the ITU I want to thank IPC President Sir Phillip Craven and the IPC Board.”
