Laurens Verluyten and Lourdes Oyarbide win the time trial of the first stage of the Vuelta Ciclista a Lanzarote
Starting from Club La Santa, more than 500 participants from 25 nationalities toured the north and east of the island.

Laurens Verluyten and Lourdes Oyarbide have won the time trial of the first stage of the Vuelta Ciclista a Lanzarote, which started at 8:30 a.m. at Club La Santa.
On this first day, the more than 500 cyclists faced 115 kilometres in total, with a cumulative positive gradient of almost 1.800 metres.
With the spectacular peloton riding in a group, in each municipality and in each regrouping area there was a real party, with hundreds of fans cheering on the participants and enjoying a fun event for all ages.
The time trial, the most spectacular part of the day, began in Haría. In the last few metres, Laurens Verluyten beat Daniel Ocaña by 10 seconds, with Jorge Wilkes crossing the finish line in third place.
In the women's classification, Lourdes Oyarbide dominated the time trial from start to finish, arriving at Mirador del Río 44 seconds ahead of her closest rival, the Danish Signe Thomsen. Her compatriot Nanna Espensen completed the podium.
At the end of the stage, Levin Veale and Signe Thomsen set the best finishing times in the men's and women's categories, respectively.

Tomorrow the second stage
For tomorrow's stage, participants will set off from Puerto del Carmen, head west of the island through areas such as Playa Blanca and Yaiza, and finish this adventure at the Club La Santa facilities.
Along the way, 74 kilometres of route and more than 1.000 metres of accumulated positive gradient in which you will enjoy the incredible landscapes of Lanzarote.
