Lionel Sanders wins IRONMAN Canada 2024 after swimming cancellation

The Canadian triathlete Lionel Sanders has achieved victory in IRONMAN Canada, held in Penticton, after the swimming segment was canceled due to low water temperatures.

Since the start of the race, Sanders showed his dominance, as the cancellation of swimming allowed him to focus on his strengths: cycling and running.

At the end of the 180.2 kilometers by bicycle, Sanders, with a time of 4:09:07, arrived at T2 with 10:24 ahead of the Australian Sam Appleton and 14: 01 on Pohl.

In the marathon, Appleton managed to cut some time, but Sanders He was not threatened at any time, maintaining a comfortable pace and crossing the finish line in 6:57:09, with a time of 2:45:52 in the marathon. Appleton took second place with a total time of 7:05:37, followed by Pohl in third place with 7:15:44.

This victory marks the first victory of Sanders in an IRONMAN since his victory in Florida in 2021.
