The Long Course Weekend Mallorca returns to Alcúdia this weekend with more than 1.200 athletes

Alcudia will once again host the Long Course Weekend Mallorca, a unique multisport event in Spain that lasts 3 days, from Saturday 27th to Monday 29th of October, and that attracts triathletes, cyclists, swimmers and runners from up to 20 different countries. 

It is a sports event in which participants have to swim on Saturday, ride a bicycle on Sunday and run on Monday. There are many distances and options in which to participate each day, and a special recognition in the form of a fourth medal for those athletes capable of taking part daily in the long distance segment that gives its name to the competition: 3.800 m of swimming, 180 km of cycling and 42.195 m running.

Between the three days of competition there are already registered more than 1.200 participants, of which 600 arrive from Great Britain, some 350 Spanish and 150 Germans, among others 20 nationalities. Among the most significant statistical data is that of the very high female participation, the largest in Spain at sporting events such as triathlon, cycling or running, with a total of one 41% of women. In sports, last year's winners of the three-day cumulative final standings, the British Lucy Gossage y Tom Vickery, have confirmed their presence at the starting line.

El Long Course Weekend starts on Saturday 27 October with the Swim Day at the 9AM in the harbor bay of Alcúdia. In the afternoon from the 16h a fun race for children is held, the Kids Beach Run, on the beach.

This second edition of the Long Course Weekend Mallorca has been presented today at the Zafiro Palace Hotel in Alcudia, with the presence of the British athletes Lucy Gossage and Tom Vickery, the current champions of the event and who return to defend their titles. The event was attended by Toni Mir Llabrés, Mayor of Alcúdia, Joan Gaspar Vallori, Alcúdia Tourism Councilor, Carmen Zierer, Manager of the Hotel Association of Alcúdia and Can Picafort, Antonio Homar, Commercial Director of Zafiro Hotels and David Thompson, Director of Long Course Weekend race and manager of Kumulus, organizing company.

All representatives of local institutions have highlighted the enormous future that this sporting event has in Alcúdia and its projection as a catalyst for tourism in Mallorca outside the peak season.

Sunday is the "Bike Day"That starts the 8h30 with a cycling race of 86 or 172km, with the roads closed to traffic and with the option of being able to go in the peloton. To end, On Monday 27 October is the "Run Day"From the 8h45, in which athletes can choose between running 5, 21 or 42 km. Only the finishers of the three days in the greater distances will be able to choose to the fourth medal that grants them the status of "Legends" and "finishers" of the Long Course Weekend Mallorca.

Swim Day

On Saturday 27 October will be the "Swim Day", where participants can choose between swimming four different crossings: 750, 1.500, 1.900 or 3.800 m that will take place in the calm and crystal clear waters of the Bay of Alcudia.

Bike Day

The next day, on Sunday, the "Bike Day" will be held, where athletes can choose between 2 distances, one of 172 km and another of 86 km, with drafting allowed (peloton). Both routes will run through the Natural Park of Mallorca s'Albufera, Can Picanfort, Santa Margalida, Siney, Llubí, Muro and Sa Pobla. Two circuits will be given to those who prefer the 172km while a single round of the 86km route. Both tests end in Alcudia. It is an authentic competitive test, with closed traffic, and a very attractive and fast route.

Run Day

The culmination of this festival is Monday 29, with the "Run Day", with four different options to compete: 5, 10, 21 or 42 km. All the tests will run along the beach promenade, next to the sea, in a very flat route with spectacular views.

It is not just an event for triathletes, although these are the ones that can offer the most performance to fight for the finishers classification of the longest distances each day, but also for swimmers, cyclists or runners who want to enjoy the races separately. That is, swimmers can choose one of the four crossings of "Swim Day". Cycling lovers can take advantage of this to become a competitive cyclist with closed traffic. And, finally, runners can compete from an 5k to a marathon.
