The British triathlete Lucy Charles, the current world champion of HOMBRE DE HIERRO, has announced that he will not participate in this weekend's race in Nice due to a leg injury.
The Briton, who clocked a world record of 8:24:31 in Kona last year, was one of the favourites to win in Nice. She had hoped to defend her title tomorrow but today shared an emotional post on Instagram announcing her decision not to take part.I will not be able to compete in the Ironman World Championship this Sunday", wrote Charles-Barclay.
"Yesterday morning I felt a pain in my leg. After consulting with my medical team and performing some tests, we confirmed that the pain is due to a grade 1c muscle strain.
Although it's a relatively minor issue, competing could turn it into something much more serious, and after what I went through last year, I don't want to risk facing months of rehab again.".
